Obtaining Royalty Mentality...

Don't have the Royalty Mentality? Then you need to get on board! The next time someone tells you that you think you're all that, you look them straight in the eyes with boldness and repeat this: “I am because my Father told me so. For you see my Father has unlimited resources and He has made me joint heirs with His son who is Royalty! I thought you knew my Father is the source of the resource!"

Do not let anyone sell you on your worth especially on Kingdom business. Formal Announcement: I do not think I am all that....I KNOW I AM and have the looks to match...BAM!

I do not care how hopeless your situation is, it's just an illusion to discourage you. I do not care how ugly your past may appear...it's just that THE PAST! I am so sick and tired of people keeping themselves in bondage because of their past. Oh well if you use to be the town whore...so what! Oh well if you used to sleep with married men/women. There were whores in the Bible too!

If you have confessed your sin, asked for forgiveness and repented then why do you care what people think of you. In fact why do you keep picking that thing back up when God has already placed that sin in a zip lock bag and thrown it in the sea of forgetfulness? The only opinion one should ever be concerned with is God.

You may be reading this and have no food in your refrigerator, need healing in your body, just lost your job, have a negative bank account balance, contemplating divorce, car giving you problems, have five dollars to your name and you are saying now how am I suppose to adopt the royalty mentality?

Easy you get in that Word and see what the Father has to say about those things. Get in His presence and ask Him what is grieving His heart so you can stop blocking your blessings. And then guess what, sit silent and wait for Him to answer.

You must ask Him to renew your mind and transform those old thoughts. You must meditate on His word day and night. You must fast ad pray. You must be persistent with your prayers.

You must pray with the right motives. You must pray until you feel that burden lifted and a shift occurring in the atmosphere. The more you plug into the Father, the more your faith increases and your way of thinking changes.

Last time I checked He has given us the power to change our situation around. Most people do not know how to counteract the issues they face because they do not know what the word says about that particular issue.

You may be saying Sonja I have declared my healing and still nothing. I am here to tell you to keep declaring your healing until it is so BUT you must do so in Faith. He just doesn’t want us to have little faith but big faith as well.
All throughout His word you see this phrase "Oh Ye of Little Faith". It's time to increase your Faith because you have Royal Blood flowing through your veins.

For those who appear to be in hopeless situations, repeat the declarations below and believe in Faith that with God all things are possible, continue to allow Him to renew your mind, implement the strategies given to you during your private time and watch how your situation turns around.

People it's time to get in that Word and find out what He has to say and stop relying on Man.

Interview with Carol Kent

Tell us about the Christmas gift you received. How did it help you to find grace in the middle of a seemingly hopeless situation?

Two weeks before Christmas our doorbell rang at 9:15 p.m. It was dark outside and by the time my husband, Gene, joined me at the front door, we were surprised to find no one there. It was already dark, but my eyes fell on a large, exquisitely wrapped gift. The card on top said, “Mom.” Initially, it felt like a bad joke. Nine years earlier our son, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy had been arrested for murdering his wife’s first husband and he was in prison serving a life-without-the-possibility-of-parole sentence.

However, I am a “Mom” and the package was left on my doorstep, so I opened it. The note appeared to be in my son’s unique handwriting. The note expressed his deep love for me and his gratefulness for what I had done to help him since his arrest. He said a “friend” had helped him deliver the surprise. Opening the box, I discovered a gorgeous russet-colored silk jacket—and it fit me perfectly.

That night I discovered something new about God and something I had forgotten about myself. He loves to interject divine surprises into our lives. His timing is always perfect, but it had been a while since I had been surprised by joy, wonder, and grace in the middle of one of the tight spots of life.

What are “grace places,” and how can hurting people in need find them?

All of us experience tight spots when life turns out differently from our dream. When we face the overwhelming obstacles of life, we can experience the last thing we ever expect—the sweet spot of grace. Grace places have a variety of forms, but some include:

•Receiving love when we don’t deserve it
•Finding safety in the middle of a fearful and uncertain experience
•Being comforted by friends and family (people who are extensions of God’s love)
•Experiencing the embrace of God when we have run out of strength and courage
“Grace means the free, unmerited, unexpected love of God, and all the benefits, delights, and comforts which flow from it.” (R.P.C. Hanson)

How important are contentment and gratitude in finding grace and peace?

My son, Jason, is teaching me that I need to choose contentment and thanksgiving in all things. As an inmate in a maximum-security prison, all of his personal items must fit in one small one-foot-high and one-and a half-feet-deep and two-and-a half feet long steel lockbox. He has learned to live comfortably with very little, which brings him a surprising sense of peace.

When I was visiting him one weekend I asked how he holds on to hope in the middle of a life-without-the-possibility-of-parole sentence. He said, “Mom, I have a gratitude list. Whenever the clouds of depression try to discouragement, I get out a piece of paper and write down everything I have to be thankful for. I’m thankful I have two parents who will be my advocates for as long as they live. The average number of years a lifer gets visits is five years and then no one comes anymore. I’m also thankful I can be a missionary on a compound that houses up to 1,700 men.” I’m learning from Jason that I find contentment when I choose to be thankful and when I invest my time in helping other people.

What are some unexpected gestures of kindness you’ve received in the past, and how did they help you through difficult times?

A couple of years ago Jason’s appendix ruptured and he was rushed from the prison to a civilian hospital. Gene and I were not allowed to know where he was and I prayed for someone to care for him as a mother would. He had two armed guards in his room at all times. Nurse Betty was assigned to Jason’s care. She treated him with respect and extraordinary care—and I knew she was a direct answer to my prayers.

A group of people who called themselves our “Stretcher Bearers” received an e-mailed monthly update on how to help with our needs. We were blessed with meals, cards, and financial gifts, often just before we needed extra funds for the next legal payment. These amazing people waited with us for two and a half years through seven postponements of the trial.

How has your definition of adventure changed over the years, and why is it important to retain adventure in your life, despite your situation?

True adventure is seeing the potential of living for things that matter in the middle of your current circumstances. We had the adventure of launching a nonprofit organization that helps to empower our son to facilitate classes by having books and DVD teaching series sent to the prison. We also have the adventure of reaching out to other people who are in crisis, which brings purpose and deep meaning to our lives.

There is a theme of surprise throughout the book. What is one of the greatest surprises you’ve had?

The powerful story of Tammy Wilson and Matthew Ben Rodriguez is in this book. Tammy contacted me after I spoke at an event she attended because my son is incarcerated in the same prison where Matt, the man who killed her mother thirteen years ago is incarcerated. She had been praying for someone to lead Matt to Christ and asked if Jason would try to meet him. It turned out that Jason and Matt were already friends and this amazing story is one of forgiveness, redemption, and restoration that can only be explained in the supernatural dimension.

Between a Rock and a Grace Place releases 10 years after your son, Jason, was sentenced to life in a maximum security prison and includes excerpts from Jason’s letters. Can you tell us how he’s doing now?

He has just taken his 8th group of men through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University Course and he will be facilitating a biblical counseling class on marriage and family this fall. He has a prayer group of twelve inmates who fast and pray for the needs of each other and their families. Prison is a depressing, dark, and sad place, but Jason is living for things that will outlast him.

When you received news about Jason’s clemency hearing being denied, how did you respond?

I wailed like a baby, sobbed, felt angry, hurt, and disappointed in God. Then we saw Jason a day after this devastating news. He was calm and very much at peace. He hugged me as I wept and said, “Mom, this case isn’t about having the best attorney or about having the favor of Florida’s top executive political leaders. If I am ever allowed to walk in freedom in this lifetime, it will be because God miraculously opened a door that was closed.” My son helps me to develop an eternal perspective and that day he comforted me.

What advice do you have for those who are stuck between a rock and a grace place?

In the middle of your own hurt reach out to someone else who needs help worse than you do. When you involve yourself in meeting the needs of others, you discover an unexpected freedom on the inside. Corrie ten Boom once said, “What did you do today that only a Christian would have done?”

As a result of your journey, you and your husband have founded the nonprofit organization Speak Up for Hope. What are the goals of the organization, and how can people get involved?

Our vision: To help inmates and their families adjust to their new normal.

Our mission: We exist to provide hope to inmates and their families through encouragement and resources.

Interview with Francine Rivers

How has exploring the relationship between your mother and grandmother helped you understand yourself?

This is a question I would love readers to ask themselves at the end of Her Mother’s Hope. I realized early in the story that I have many of my grandmother and mother’s character traits, both good and bad. They both had tempers. So do I. They both had low self-esteem. I’m always striving to “measure up”. They both chose spouses who respected them. So did I. Both women had strong faith and servants’ hearts, something they encouraged in me. My mother extended grace to others -- a trait I want to cultivate to the end of my days. By holding onto her anger, Grandma lacked the peace and joy she could have had in her last years. I tend to relive past hurts. Writing about Marta made me decide to let go, forgive and move on. For whatever reason, Grandma couldn’t and missed out on so much joy in her last years. Sometimes people deeply hurt as children take offense where none was intended. Holding a grudge causes suffering, especially for the one who won’t let go. Jesus said to forgive one another as He has forgiven us. Forgiveness frees us, even if the other person refuses to join in the process of reconciliation. As I examine my own life, I see how much I’ve been forgiven. How can I not extend God’s grace to others? The best way to experience the fullness of God’s presence in my life is to surrender it to Him. And in that surrender, we are made more complete and joy-filled.

Mother-daughter relationships are often complicated and fraught with emotional land mines. What was your approach to exploring the complexity of those relationships in a fictional setting?

Questions, lots of questions! Every time I told someone I was working on a book about mother-daughter relationships, people wanted to share their family stories. As I wrote Her Mother’s Hope, I wanted readers to see through each woman’s eyes, and understand how the past shaped each in the way she responded to her mother. Hildemara doesn’t believe her mother loves her, but it is out of Marta’s pain and loss that tough-love techniques were forged. Marta wants to strengthen her daughter for whatever lies ahead. Sometimes what we view as rejection can actually be an act of sacrificial love. We seldom know the experiences that shaped our mothers, the deep hurts, traumatic events, broken relationships. I hope women who read this book will want to share those things with one another.

Writing a novel is not for the faint of heart. What was the most difficult part of writing this family saga? What came the most naturally to you?

The most difficult part of writing any novel is getting out of my own way. I have to get rid of preconceived notions about themes and characters and plot. The first draft of this novel came in at over 1000 pages and was too biographical. I wanted the story to shift back and forth from present to past, trying to show what happened to create the rifts and valleys between Hildemara, Carolyn and May Flower Dawn. I was too cautious, too afraid to harm to my grandmother and mother’s memory.

A wonderful editor wrote me an insightful letter in which she listed what she wanted to know about each the characters. Her letter got my creative juices flowing. She helped me look at the story in a new way. I set the first manuscript aside and started over. I found it better to move from one generation to the next in a linear story. This time the characters followed my grandmother and mother’s timeline, but took on a life of their own. They became unique individuals rather than the shadow of real people.

After readers finish this series what do you want them to remember? What questions and feelings do you want it to provoke on a spiritual and emotional level?

I hope and pray readers who have had difficult relationships with their mothers or daughters will let go of the pain and anger and allow God to work in their lives. God can work all things together for good for those who trust and love Him. Following Jesus’ example changes the way we see people. It changes the way we relate to one another. Even when the chasm is too deep to cross, we can decide to forgive. Some people wear grievances like a dirty coat. With God’s strength, we can strip it off and be free. When people finish reading Her Daughter’s Dream, I hope they will want to extend God’s grace and forgiveness. I hope they will tear down their walls and use their life experiences to begin building a bridge.

Who do you see as the audience for this story, and does that differ from your previous readership?

I am fortunate to work with Tyndale House. If a writer does well in one genre, publishers encourage the writer to continue in the same genre. Tyndale has given me the freedom to go wherever the story leads. I have done historical as well as contemporary. This two-part saga was intended to be one LONG book. Splitting the story into two parts made it more affordable for readers, and eliminated the need to delete entire sections. Hopefully, both women and men will enjoy Her Mother’s Hope and Her Daughter’s Dream. Men play a strong role in the lives of all four primary characters: Marta, Hildemara Rose, Carolyn and May Flower Dawn. And both books have much to do with faith, how it presents itself, how it grows, often under difficult circumstances and in unexpected ways.

Go Forth...

There are times along your journey where you may need a thrust forward in pursuing your dreams. Sometimes when you need that push, there may not be anyone around willing to tell you to go forth; to give it all you got.

Today I am here to thrust you forward. I believe in you, I know you can do it! Wouldn't it be nice instead of just thinking about living out your vision you actually begin taking action steps towards making it happen?

Today can be that day; simply go forth with what you have in right now faith. Imagine walking across a bridge but no planks are available. You are wondering how you are going to accomplish the task to get to the other side. Finally, you take a deep breath in, step forward and one by one the planks appear.

That's how God will move on your behalf; one by one the provisions will begin to show up as you begin stepping out in faith! Take the first step of faith and then another. Before for long you are living the life He had for you all along.

Don't Deny Your Pain...

Make no mistake about it; this spiritual walk isn’t easy. Sure we can lighten our load if we continue to keep God in the driver’s seat as we allow Him to direct our paths and follow the instructions given to us without wavering.

But that doesn’t mean this spiritual journey is one that is pain free; one that will not cause you to long suffer while waiting on the promises He has made to you. You must continue to stay in the race of faith! You must not give up or give in! Continue to believe in what God has told His children through His Word.

Sometimes all you can do is cry but remember crying is not necessarily a sign of being weak. Yes crying is a sign of being strong because when you cry you are actually mourning an old part of you; making room for the new. If you have to cry then by all means go ahead and cry; whatever emotions you are feeling never deny yourself to feel those emotions. However, do not stay in the rain for too long otherwise the sunshine will never come.

Saying you love a person is a very strong statement and leaves an impression on their heart. In order to truly love someone a person must be willing to embrace and accept whatever stage the other is at on their journey. We must give one another room to grow because growth is a part of the life cycle.

Things will not always be perfect and when conflict arises you must be willing to still love that person through. This is what unconditional love is all about; it is the type of love that doesn’t have stipulations. It’s the type of love that doesn’t change like the season or depends on whether one is moody or not. This love my friend is only found through Christ. Allow Him to show you the way to love.

Interview with Author of "Escaping The Cauldron" by Kristine McGuire

About the Author Kristine McGuire

I was raised in a traditional Christian home and was six years old when I first learned Jesus wanted to save me from my sins and be my friend. I said yes to his offer and asked him into my life.

However, there were other influences in my life. By the time I was nine years old I wanted to be a fortune teller when I grew up. I have no idea how I learned about palm or card reading, but I found it fascinating. My friends and I would pretend to be psychic. We would have “séances” at our sleepovers and tell ghost stories. Try seeing the face of “Bloody Mary” in the mirror, or levitate each other with our fingertips.

As a teenager I learned the Bible warned against these practices. I didn't want to offend God, so I stopped participating in occult games and seeking psychic experiences. I devoted myself to God, went to college, where I met and eventually married a Christian man.

We both loved God and were very active in church. However, some how over the years I lost something in my relationship with Christ. I became very legalistic. Forgetting the mercy and grace of my Savior. Replacing a relationship with God for strict religion.

Over time as I tried to become godly through my own efforts, I became angry, depressed. This began affecting all of my relationships but most especially the one with my husband. I couldn’t live up to the demands of religiosity, and neither could he. Eventually I stopped reading the Bible, gave up on prayer. Going to church became a rote exercise for both of us.

I came to the conclusion that Christianity wasn’t working for me. I believed I could never be "good enough" to meet the standards of perfection I believed were necessary to please God. So after twenty-nine years in the church…I left.

Being a person of faith, however, I knew I couldn’t live in a spiritual vacuum. Jumping feet first into the spiritual unknown I decided to explore Wicca. I began to study anything I could find on the religion and the practice of witchcraft. Surfing the internet, I started joining pagan message boards to ask questions. Making friends with those who could answer my questions.

Soon I committed myself to witchcraft. Embracing it as a new spiritual path. Not only did this affect me, but my family. Initially I hid my practices from my husband…who was going through his own emotional and spiritual struggles…but eventually I left our marriage. I thought I'd found freedom, and that included freedom from him. At this time I also began exploring psychic development. Eventually becoming a Clairesentient Medium and ghost hunter.

Several years into my new spirituality I still questioned if what I was doing was wrong. I would waffle between trying to be a Christian, only to go back to witchcraft soon after. So I decided to bring my past faith into the current practice, I began culling from both Christianity and witchcraft….taking what I liked, and leaving the rest behind.

As odd as it sounds, I became a Christian Witch. Worshiping Father, Son, and Holy Spirit…going to church…all the while privately practicing the rituals and magick of The Craft. I believed I'd found the answer. My husband and I…after several separations…were even able to come back together.

As I look back now I realize how gracious and patient God was with me as I wrestled with my beliefs. He never stopped calling or reaching out to me. Eventually, through a rather odd circumstance, God’s truth broke through the malaise and set me free. Confessing my sin and renouncing all I had done over those long years, I recommitted my life completely to Jesus Christ. My life and faith was restored.

The journey was dark and difficult, but I'm thankful for having lived through it. Now I'm firmly set in the center of God's will. No matter where I go from here, I will serve Him. My prayer is God will use my experiences to bring Him glory. Reveal the truth of His never ending mercy, grace, and forgiveness to all. Encouraging anyone who might be on a similar journey to never stop seeking Him.

Interview with Kristine McGuire

What is the book about?

The book is part testimony of how I went from committed, albeit legalistic, Christian for twenty-nine years to witch, medium, and ghost hunter for eight years before God restored my faith and life. It details my personal struggle with trying to be "the perfect Christian" while being drawn to the Occult from childhood. The book is also a Biblical study that examines the current pop-cultural interest in the occult (in particular ghosts, hauntings, and mediums) and how this interest is affecting Christians as well as their beliefs about the supernatural.

Why call it Escaping the Cauldron?

This is actually the first book in a series, What Christians Need to Know about the Occult. It is a series of collections written from my former experiences as a witch, medium, and ghost hunter. This book is primarily about ghost hunting, mediumship, and the paranormal but I chose "Escaping the Cauldron" as the main title because witchcraft was truly my entry into the arena of occult interest and exploration including such things as divination, psychic ability, spirit guides, mediumship, ghost hunting, etc.

What do you think is the most important chapter of the book?

I think there are many important chapters but "Spiritual Warfare" and "How Should Christians Respond?"are the two which take everything discussed in the previous chapters bringing it all together, helping the reader understand their authority in Jesus Christ and leading the way to a ready defense for any kind of paranormal or supernatural event they may experience in their life as a Christian.

What do you hope to accomplish with this book?

I hope to inform and equip Christians with information about the occult. Additionally I pray the church will begin to acknowledge the presence of the spiritual world around us and listen to people who come forward with stories or claims of paranormal experiences without dismissing them immediately. When the church refuses to listen or offer any Biblical assistance, many people are forced to seek help elsewhere. This generally means seeking out ghost hunters, mediums, and psychics. I also hope to encourage Christians who may be questioning their faith to seek a deeper relationship with God, especially if they are stuck in a form of legalism. Our answers truly can be found in Jesus Christ.

It boils down to one word: CHOICE. We all have choices to make and even though "life happens to me as well, I choose not to let those not so good days keep me down forever. It's all habit forming and daily I plug into positive people and things. This is years in the making and most think it happens overnight.

You must make the conscious decision that you will not only speak positive over your own life but take action and rid yourself of those things which are bringing about negative feelings. This is what I tell individuals; acknowledge whatever emotion you are feeling but do not stay in the rain for too long or the sun will never shine. Have an awesome day!

Why Are You Here...

Question: How do you know why you're really here?

Answer: On my journey of looking deeper inside myself and making the decision that I desire more in this life than just being a waste of space, I sought God to show me what my real purpose was for being here; how could I coming from a small country town make an impact on the world? Eventually I heard a still voice speak that I was here to empower women and work with youth across the nation. I then begin aligning my life to do just that. With a lot of sweat, tears and sleepless nights, I have begun walking in my purpose. Two years later, I have a clear vision of where my company is going and determined to stay on course. Learning from those "life experiences" along the way!

Clear the Clutter Day...

Declare that today is clear the clutter day! Each of us has control of what junk we allow in our environment. A cluttered environment can lead to a cluttered mind. Have procrastination cause your life to become cluttered to the point where your energy and mood have been depleted? Are you allowing others to bring negativity your way and clutter you mind and spirit?

Take radical action on today and begin clearing the clutter out of your life and free yourself. Clutter can come in the form of people, places, task and/or things. Also do not forget to clean out your inboxes, closets, car trunks, etc. These are sneaky clutters that lurk in your environment.

As you begin freeing yourself from clutter, identify the feelings that are associated with having a clean clutter free environment versus a cluttered one. What is the one clutter buster step you will take on today?

Real Success...

When you think of the word success, what comes to mind? Success is often linked to money, car, houses; you know the finer things in life. If a person notice, all the mention items have one thing in common- they are the outer manifestation of something much bigger than what the eyes can see.

In order for one to be successful permanently, they must first view success as being internally. Success must happen on the inside of a person; literally a person must be taken through a process working from the inner being in order for true success to occur on the outer.

By inner I mean a person must see themselves as being successful. In order to see yourself as being successful, you must first define what success means to you. Once success has been defined by your own personal beliefs, you will begin aligning your life up so success can be measured externally. Once an individual has clarity concerning their personal success, the positive feelings associated with success comes naturally and is easily recognizable.

A person is already successful in my eyes once they have push through an obstacle and overcame it. Anyone can throw in the towel but only a successful person will persevere in spite of the obstacles along their path. Only a successful person will dig deep to find solutions to their problems.

On today, take a few moments and define what success means to you? How will being successful make you feel? How will you choose to measure your success?

Get Rid of Your Should of ...

Daily I observe individuals who have allowed disappointment to control their life. These individuals beat themselves up and often live in the I should of, could of, oh why didn’t I world.

The harsh reality is we all have or will experience disappointment; however we must make a conscious decision to allow disappointment to be temporary.

Disappointment is like a nasty invisible germ that will incubate and turn into a life threatening disease. Depending on the severity and how long an individual allow disappointment to linger in their life, it can easily turn into depression.

The easiest way to cope with disappointment is to acknowledge your feelings. Too many try to mask their feelings, which place those individuals in the danger zone. Once you acknowledge your feelings, forgive yourself and/or others. We live in an imperfect world and we all need to allow ourselves and others room to grow.

Lastly, since I believe disappointment is linked to stress, participate in activities that bring a sense of peace to your being and will get you back to your happy place.

Watch Your Words...

Let's face it, words are powerful. They have the power to uplift or have the power to tear down an individual self-esteem. From early on in life we learn the affects of words and how long after they leave our mouth, whether good or bad words leave a lasting impression.

Today let’s take inventory of the words that we speak to others and to ourselves. Our words should be positive and enhance our personal growth. If any words you discover are keeping you on the fence from moving forward, replace with healthier words.

“I will try, I wish, etc”, are words that may lead room for limiting beliefs to make a permanent residence in your mind. Instead replace with more powerful words that will lead to positive action steps. An example is listed below:

Example 1:

I will try to lose five pounds by the end of this month.

Replacement:

I am taking the necessary action steps needed to lose five pounds by the end of July!

Everything we have learned in life is built around repetition. From the moment we were children and learned to brush our teeth, to the first time we were in the driver’s seat of a car; each individual formed the habit of being successful at that particular task. Focusing on reaching your highest potential is the same way; we must form positive habits to achieve our goals.

The easiest and quickest way to do this is by focusing on what you can do; you know your strengths, those things in which you excel at. Take some time, get in a quiet place and make a list of all those things you are good at no matter how small it may be. The more a person recognizes their strengths, the more they will begin to unlock limiting thinking and will become eager at completing the task at hand.

Blog Tour Interview With Kathy Pride...

About The Author

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m trying to decide how to introduce myself… I have lots of energy (although I feel tired a lot), am decidedly middle aged (although I still seem to think I am in my twenties) and wage a losing battle with wanting to drop ten to fifteen pounds which have settled between my naval and my knees.

I worship at Community Mennonite Fellowship in Milton, Pennsylvania where I serve as the Director of the Missions/Outreach Ministry. I accepted Christ the very first day I showed up at this church on June 10, 2001 and am privileged to serve as part of the church with a group of people who walk the talk.

I grew up in New York City and now I live in a small town in Pennsylvania where I moved with my husband, Howie, in 1986. We chose Danville, PA because there is a large medical center and it is where my husband completed his residencies and now practices as a pediatric dermatologist.

Howie and I met at Brown University, where he graduated in 1980, and I graduated in 1982. I did not study English, journalism, or writing, (a question I am frequently asked) but majored in Health and Society. When we moved to Pennsylvania I continued my education, earning my BSN from Bloomsburg University and have spent over twenty years teaching huff and puff (childbirth education) classes.

We have four children, two big boys (OK, young men) in their twenties, and two daughters in elementary school. The quip is that we missed our generation completely, having our first two children as young fools, and our second two as old fogies. Our older daughter is Vietnamese, joining our family when she was five months old. Our other three children are birth children, our second son and second daughter red headed look a-likes.

My writing journey started in 2002 when we were in the midst of struggles with our son and I felt compelled to share a hand of hope and healing to other families who were struggling with substance abuse. The directive to share was very clear, as if I had heard an audible voice. I ended up writing the book I needed to read Winning the Drug War at Home. And that was the beginning of my writing life, which I love and find myself knee-deep in it.

What else can I tell you about myself? In an attempt to get rid of those nagging extra ten pounds I love to exercise but need a goal to keep me motivated. So my husband and I recently decided to join the world of short distance triathlons. I used to be quite competitive (swam at the National Level) but now my goal is simply to finish.

I love to travel and we have gone to Honduras on Medical Mission trips. Recently I did a high ropes course, and all I have to say is it really is a good thing I only had a vague idea of what I was getting myself into. I have never participated in sky diving (although our son Matt has; he also went down in a cage to visit with sharks and want to get his Avalanche certification…) but I have gone paragliding in the Swiss Alps.

Interview with Kathy Pride

First, a little bit about me and how this book came to be…

So, let’s chat. I love chatting! And meeting new people, especially moms.
I am a mom, I have a mom, and I have worked with moms for years as a childbirth educator. And my writing style is much like my teaching style, telling things like they are with truth, humor and transparency.

I hated it when the instructor told me in Lamaze class that the contractions wouldn’t hurt. That was simply not true. And I vowed then and there that everything I did in life had to be truthful, but that sometimes the truth hurts so humor tempers lots.

Anyway, I have four kids, two adult sons, 28 and 25 and two younger daughters, eleven and thirteen, and for those who wonder about the gap, our third child was actually the only one truly, truly planned for the time she arrived, as she was adopted and brought home from Vietnam at five months of age.

My husband and I have been married for almost thirty years and met in college and have hung in and on ever since. We live in a small town in Central PA where he is a physician and I spend most of my time after three pm in the car.

The opportunity to write this book came to be as a result of a totally divine happenstance conversation I had with editor extraordinaire and grace dispenser Kim Bangs who invited me to submit a concept sheet and then proposal for this book.

Well, what about that soft spot for moms?

Moms have a tough job, don’t you think?

We do have the Bible, and not to minimize that as an instruction manual in right living by any stretch of the imagination, but it tends to come in after friends and family and all their free advice, that can be pretty costly…

So the question arose, how can we take Biblical wisdom and stories, role models and examples, and weave them into relevant (and funny) stories to encourage moms? I know I need encouragement! Everyone else’s kids may be perfect, but mine are NOT. And, shocker, neither am I. But guess what? Neither were many of the moms, ok, all of the moms in the Bible. Remember, Jesus has the corner on the market in the perfection department, so God has provided lots of examples of moms and how they dealt with different situations, similar to what current day moms deal with. Truly, there is nothing new under the sun. But, the story of the Bible is one of redemption, and moms need to remember that.

So, the opening story for Genesis, is titled, “E is for Eve and Epidurals.”

So, tell us a little bit about how the book is laid out, and who is Henrietta Mears?

The book is inspired by the writing of Henrietta Mears, renowned Bible Teacher from Hollywood Presbyterian Church in the 1940’s and on. She believed in making the Bible accessible to everyone, and wrote her hallmark publication, What the Bible is All About, and was the founder of Gospel Light Publishing, Regal’s (the publisher of this book) parent company. So Regal has now published two devotionals inspired by her writing.

The book is comprised of 66 chapters, one for each book of the Bible, each one bit sized for busy moms.

Each chapter starts off with a brief section entitled “Snapshot from Henrietta” which serves as a basic overview for that particular book of the Bible. It is then followed by selected Scriptures, also inspired by the writing of Miss Mears, with one specific Scripture from among her selections highlighted. This Scripture is one that has particular relevance to moms.

A short one sentence synopsis precedes each story under the heading, “Momento” and then is followed by the story under the heading, “Mama Mia” which focuses on a mom or mom theme.
Each story is followed by an encouragement, “Lightening the Mother Load” and then closes with questions for reflection under “Musings for Moms.”

Tell us a little about the stories; some of these titles make me laugh.

I am so glad they make you laugh. Every mom who has gone through labor can relate to labor pain. Well, it says there right in the Bible, women will experience pain in childbirth, so E is for Eve (the grande dame mama) and epidurals…

Then there are others, like, “Bath”-Is That for Bathing or Bathsheba? (Being noticed and admired…); “White Teeth and Plastic Surgery” (paying attention to appearances); “Mean Girls 101” (raising great daughters); and “Too Much Idling Will Ruin Your Engine” (Gossiping).

But the stories are relevant, honest, and will result in many nods of recognition. I am simply the scribe (oh, and experiencer of most of the stories, which are all true, although some names have been changed….)

But aren’t Moms too busy to read?

I will be the first mom to admit that we are busy…and I often fall asleep at night, sometimes drooling, while trying to read. But these chapters are bite sized, uplifting and include lots of Scripture, and can be read on the go. They are great for the car or purse. Plus, with the Bible overview, if you have friends who don’t think the Bible is particularly relevant, or not for them, this is perfect to introduce them to the Bible as the real deal!

Is this for all moms, or just young moms?

The challenges that moms face are really universal throughout their lifetime. It may be a different story, but ultimately it is the same script. It may be sleepless nights with a colicky baby, but problems and not understanding what is wrong continues with your kids through a lifetime (sorry, if you have young kids you probably didn’t just want to read this…)
It includes single moms, young moms, older moms, and moms who aren’t yet moms. There are struggles in yearning to be a mom and God’s answers and timing that are also written about with bittersweet honesty.

Have you had experience with tough times in parenting?

Absolutely. But because God is in the grand business of redemption, while it doesn’t condone wrongs, He will use mistakes to help us reach out to others. I have experienced crisis pregnancy, pregnancy loss, infertility, adoption and motherhood as a young fool, and older fogie…remember, we have seventeen years between number one and four. Our adult sons have had struggles (one son’s struggle with substance abuse is what paved the way to my relationship with Christ) and just real life issues, which would make it into my annual Christmas letter, and is why I no longer write one (no, I write a book instead…)

How has this book been redemptive to you?

That’s a great question, because the first draft of this manuscript was, well, a little let’s just say, sharp (ok, downright caustic in some places) and that showed me, through the eyes of another, that I still had significant healing to go through in my relationship with my own mother. And it is amazing how God has accomplished that, through allowing me to write, re write and then learn from Him through the writing of this book.

What kind of feedback have you had so far?

You know, it’s been really encouraging. Moms are relieved that they are not alone, that there is someone else who will acknowledge that they don’t have it all together (and don’t drive a clean car, either…) I have had so many women remark that they felt like I was just chatting with them over coffee, that the stories are so real to life. And that’s what we need isn’t it? Encouragement from others that we journey through life together, God loves us, will redeem our mistakes, and then enable us to share with the next sojourner on the journey of life.

It’s okay to take time to get to know yourself, to romance yourself and fall in love with the person you are with every single day of your life. Learn how to love your flaws and all. Do not be hard own yourself but allow yourself room to grow. Daily one should encourage and speak life into their entire being. Focus on the positive and not the negative; focus on your strengths and not your weaknesses. Let this be an exciting time for you to reunite with yourself.

I Thought You Knew I Am Going Through Too...

With the beginning of each New Year in the Christian world I hear the statement being made by various individuals: "This is my year, this is my season." We have approximately 178 days left in 2010 and many people have already given up on the promises God has made to them and waiting until the new year to begin fresh when most receive that “feel good” New Year’s Word.

Daily I am asking God to show me those areas that grieves Him so I may continually align my life up with His Word to receive the promises. Let’s face it distractions are all around us; from our finances to our family members.

It’s easy when a person isn’t going through for them to tell you to keep pressing, trouble don’t last always (and those folks are right) but take it from someone (me) who daily is going through Spiritual Warfare to get to the promises, this walk isn’t easy.

I am not talking about a test here or there but test stack on top of one another. Many nights I cry, scream, and sometimes sit silent through the pain often wondering what Abraham really must have been going through behind close doors. Even over the course of this weekend while most were busy with the Fourth of July, I was numb from the constant test that are coming my way.

Yes I will admit that I even had to ask myself was this walk really worth it. See I am bold enough to not hide behind some spiritual mask or title. The reasons why most folks are still in bondage are the leaders are too busy covering up their messes or only telling you what sounds good but I desire for God to turn each one of my messes into a message.

I know how it feels to be alone and feeling as though you are losing your mind. Tossing and turning waking up in cold sweats wondering how you will make it through another day. I do not want anyone to think they have to continue this spiritual journey alone. I only say what most are afraid to say but think about regularly.

Like you I hear the enemy telling me my life is not worth living, that I am never going to see all the promises God has made to me but through it all I say Father I receive your promises (and I say the promise he has made to me out loud) in right now faith not relying on my feelings or emotions. I rejoice though the tears and when I am too weak to even say one Word, I call silently on the name Jesus until that heaviness is lifted off of me.

We can’t rely on our feelings and certainly the negative talk from the enemy. Do not believe the enemy’s report. If it is not aligned with God’s Word then we know it isn’t from God.

Most people who still have that religious mindset believe if your life isn’t going on the up and up then you must be doing something wrong. Hello, I know God is well pleased with me yet there are areas of my life where I am still waiting on the promise but in the natural it appears I am broke, busted and disgusted.

Sometimes God is testing us to see if we can be faithful over the small blessings and if we can handle the small test that comes our way. The more I think about it, He is preparing us for the bigger blessings. Maybe there is an Isaac you need to put on the altar. Selah

Like you, I often wonder how we will get from where we are to where He is taking us.

I do not have all the answers but I know:

1) If I see an area of my life that is not aligned up with His Word, I need to get in the Word and see what it says about that particular situation.

2) I can’t be just a hearer and not a doer (James 1:22)

3) I know my sins will cause a separation between me and God (Isa. 59:12)

4) It’s impossible to please God if I do not have faith (Heb 11:6)

5) Faith without works is dead (James 2:20)

6) Every believer should operate in the 9 fruit of the spirits (Gal 5:22-23)

7) You must be suited up with the proper attire daily (Eph. 6:10-19)

8) We have power and authority over all the enemy (Luke 10:19)

I could go on and on but we all get the point of how important it is to really meditate on His Word because the enemy is not going to just leave you (and I) alone. I believe with all my heart God desires to bless His children but it’s hard to bless someone who constantly doubt, live in fear and allow their minds to be polluted with the things of this world. Which side of the fence are you on?

In order to receive fully all the blessings He has for us, we must get in position. We must stop believing the enemy report. I believe if we as believers put Matthew 6:33 to the test, we will be in better position to receive His promises. In order to achieve different results then we must try something different.

If a person has been focusing on money, toxic relationships, etc and their situation hasn’t changed then see what will happen if the focus is more on the promises and His Word rather the problems.

Get Serious...

In order for others to take your vision seriously, a person must first get serious about their vision. Playing the game from the sidelines is not the solution; it's time to get in position to succeed permanently. It's not enough to just be a benchwarmer but one must have the passion and drive to see their goals through. Consistency is one key player and daily a person must form the habits of self discipline. As long as a person continues to play from the sidelines then they will never achieve their desired results. Today get off the bench and in position!

Push and Press...

You have done all you can in the natural and it just seems as though your turn is never coming. You pray, fast, confess God’s word and even take action and still no manifestation. As you sleep at night the words give up whispers in your ear. You are looking and it appears everyone ship has come in but yours.

What is a person to do? You keep pressing. I know it’s so hard to do but when you can’t carry your cross any longer that’s when God steps right in and carries it for you. Keep pushing through the pain and tears.

The easy way out would be to abort your mission (give up) or have a breeched birth by getting anxious and doing it your way instead of His. But just as life has many stages so does your purpose.

How many times have you seen a farmer plant his crops and the next day he reaps the harvest? Never, that’s because there’s a time and season to reap the benefits of all his laboring. Continue to embrace every moment because the more a person nurtures their vision, the more it grows.

Every obstacle is assisting us in building character and faith. It’s quite normal that when things are not going as planned, our mind tends to think about the negative what ifs. We know what will happen if one abort their mission. But what will happen this time if we continue to press and see our vision through? Something to think about.

What Are You Focusing On...

What am I focusing on right now? Are my thoughts more negative or positive? How will my thoughts enhance or hurt me in achieving my goals? These are all valid questions we should ask ourselves daily.

Most individuals focus on all those things that are wrong in the world and in their personal life but I firmly believe that if a person desires change to occur it should begin with that individual.

Am I saying that all the trouble in the world will disappear? Of course not but I believe as we declutter our lives and work through the kinks, we learn how to focus on the solutions and not the problems. On today, focus on what you do desire and create actions steps to achieve those goals.

All Is Well...

Instead of getting angry, hurt or even disappointed when God exposes those who have been deceitful, rejoice! There is too much work to be done in the Kingdom to allow any distractions to interfere with what God has chosen for you to do. Often times I noticed that God will send several red flags our way, but for one reason or another we continue to ignore.

Why is that? Is that person more important than God or your destiny? Are those same individuals worth the emotional roller coaster one volunteers to ride? Of course not; no one is worth your soul. No one is worth your blessings being put on hold.

Everyday I ask God to continue to remove the scales off of my heart and mind because I desire to be more and more like Him. I have learned and am still learning that when the going gets tough, God is your best bet. Man will always have an excuse especially when they are being deceitful. But remember all is well because your focus is on the Kingdom prize and not that which is exposed.

What's Your Solution...

It’s perfectly normal to have some form of insecurities along this journey we call life. What’s not normal is to hold ourselves in bondage to those same insecurities. We should find solutions that assist us in being released permanently. If a person desires to lose weight but is insecure about joining a gym, an easy solution could be to form a weekly neighborhood walk for good health club. By finding a solution to break free from one’s personal captivity, we are helping someone else break free as well! Begin thinking outside the box. This life’s journey is never just about us.

Deciding and Believing...

There are two important keys to being successful in every area of your life: Deciding and Believing. I firmly believe everything must start with deciding you desire change to occur. Once the decision has been made for change to occur, a person must believe in spite of what they feel, hear or see that change can happen for the better. Without both one will continue straddling the fence, always daydreaming about what ifs and going through life without a sense of purpose or fulfillment. Whatever area of our lives we feel needs fine tuning, let’s decide and believe on today that it can and will happen. Now take it once step further and take radical action!

Breath Inspired...

Take a deep breath in. Now slowly exhale. Notice how for most this comes naturally with little or no effort. How did you feel? Refreshed? Rejuvenated? Alive?

Take another deep breath in and hold. Hold your breath not for as long as you can but for the rest of your life. I know everyone who is reading this will say it’s impossible to do because we must have air to breathe and this is true.

This illustration shows the importance of having God in our life and keeping Him first. We are lost without God and nothing without Him. Just like the air we breathe, if we don’t have Him we truly will not exist.

Just as you and I are breathing so freely that is how God will move on His children’s behalf. His spirit is like the wind and blows wherever He desires. Allow Him to breathe new life into you today.

Scripture: “The wind blows (breathes) where it wills; and though you hear its sound, yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8 (Amp)

Help Others...

The easiest way to increase your energy and compassion level is to pour your heart into helping others. When I assist someone who may be less fortunate than myself or need the extra support working past obstacles in their life, I tend to not focus on the small obstacles that arise in my personal and/or professional life. This will give you a sense of fulfillment when you know you are giving your all to make your piece of the world a better place.

Our Youth: Lost In The World’s System...

Working with the youth this summer has deepened my level of compassion and sense of purpose. While many of us are tangled in our web of mess, still focusing on our problems instead of the promises of God, the enemy has already planted seeds of doubt, fear and hopelessness in the minds and hearts of the youth.

Daily our youth are getting lost in the world’s system. The enemy only job is to steal, kill and to destroy (John 10:10). What is it going to take to make us see that the enemy is stealing our youth’s vision of a better tomorrow, killing their spirit and ultimately destroying their souls?

When will we stop operating in the spirit of selfishness; only praying to God some vain prayer to bless us to pay bills or open up more financial doors, when some are mismanaging His money and not even giving in honor of Him?

Doesn’t His word states “But seek ([a]aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness ([b]His way of doing and being right), and then all these things [c]taken together will be given you besides.” (Matthew 6:33 Amp) and says “And my God will liberally supply ([a]fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:19 Amp)

What happened to fasting and praying? What happened to speaking His word until we see the manifestation in the natural? Folks there is a war going on; if you can’t see it you still can feel the war spiritually. The time is now to break those generational curses off of your family’s life.

It’s time to push away the natural food and feast off His word. It’s time to stop believing the report of the enemy. Our youth is crying out for help but our ears do not hear. My heart is literally bleeding from the pain and despair I feel.

There is still hope but we must allow our Heavenly Father to cleanse us, to set us completely free so we may be in position to properly assist these youth. I do not know about anyone else but I am determined to align my life up with His word so He may use me as the Repairer of Broken Walls (Isa. 58:12).

This is the season to see restoration of wholeness in all of God’s children. The time is now to speak life into that which was once lost, broken and dead. Our Father is ready to revive His children so our heart will begin to be stirred, scales removed so one can fully see. Allow Him to flood your hearts with compassion and determination. I am taking my stand to be part of the light shining in the heart of our youth. How about you?

Why do I do the things I do ?

As we take inventory of our lives we should stop and ask ourselves out loud this one question:Why do I do the things I do ? It seems simple enough but when looking at different areas of our lives and how we act or react to various situations, a person sometimes uncover the root of many issues that may keep them from moving forward. Facing hard reality about oneself and those things that need to change can be difficult and quite painful. But pain often is a necessary part of our journey which assist in building our character. Today take a deeper look at yourself both the good and well not so good things and figure out why you do the things you do.

Be the Example...

Once a person has made the decision to follow their dreams, there will come a point along the journey when one must walk alone. Often times, friends and family who have not hooked into the vision may not understand. Some may even become distractions, plant seeds of doubt and discouragement but remember your obstacles comes most from those things that are familiar to you.

Be confident enough in your dreams that no matter what you will see them through. Be willing to enter unfamiliar territory, for there is where one will grow the most. It's not our job to make them see through our words but in fact to put all our time and energy into our vision and let our actions do the talking.

What happens is those same individuals who may have made the choice to walk out of our life, will slowly see our light as we allow our light to shine. Remember our dreams are not just about us; we are the trailblazers who will pave the way for many who secretly have been cheering for us!

How Deep Is Your Love...

Your love for yourself and others can only be as deep as your love is for Christ. Let God show you the way to truly love. His way to love is unconditional and is never based on feelings or whether that person is loving you just as hard as you are loving them . The way to love through Christ is based on His commandments; any form of love that isn't based on His Word is human love and not Agape.

Give One Another Room To Grow...

This spiritual walk is a process and it is of the utmost importance to give another room to grow without judging. So what if your spouse slips up and curse. Remember it's not nice pointing the finger because you will always have more pointing back at you.

Keep speaking God's word over their life in right now faith. Take those things to the altar that you know isn't aligned with His word. It is not our responsibility to scold someone because we feel they need to get their spiritual walk together.

God will continue to prune and deliver them. God isn't going to take everything away all at once, otherwise we wouldn't depend on Him for anything. Let Him turn our mess into a message to assist pulling someone else out of darkness.

Book Tour With Thelma Wells...

About the Author

From times of singing in a dark closet to the founding of a national women’s mentoring ministry, Thelma Wells' life has been a courageous journey of faith. The name on her birth certificate read simply: Baby Girl Morris. Thelma’s mother was a severely deformed teenager with no husband and no place to go, since her own abusive mother insisted that she take the baby and leave the house. So when the baby was born, her unwed teenage mother found work as a maid cleaning “the big house” while living with her baby daughter in servants’ quarters. Eventually, the baby went to live with her great-grandparents, who called her Thelma Louise Smith and loved her dearly. They took little Thelma to church, where she learned to love the hymns and praise songs.

On those occasions when Thelma was taken to her grandparents’ home, her grandmother abused her, just as she had tormented Thelma’s mother. She was locked in a dark, smelly, insect-infested closet until just before her grandfather came home when her grandmother would bring her out of the closet, clean her up, and act as if all was well. In spite of her deep fear, little Thelma spent her time in the closet singing every hymn and praise song she could remember. She would sing herself to sleep in that closet, and the Lord received this little girl’s innocent praise and rewarded it with an abundant life of joy, protecting her from feelings of anger or bitterness.

Thelma grew up to become a trailblazer for black women, a prominent international speaker and author, and a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a student at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas (now the University of North Texas), she was a member of the first group of girls to integrate the school’s dormitories. She earned her Bachelor’s degree there and eventually received a Master’s of Ministry from Master’s International School of Divinity in Evansville, Indiana. In 2002 she became the school’s first black female professor.

In 1980 Thelma became the first black woman in the South to organize her own international speaking and consulting corporation. Her natural talent for public speaking and storytelling attracted the attention of the Women of Faith Tour, and in 1996 she became the first black core speaker for the organization. She has authored several books, including her latest God Is Not Through With Me Yet, an inspiring examination of her own life experiences in which she encourages readers to “sing in the closets of their lives.” She serves as the president of The Daughters of Zion Leadership Mentoring Program, an organization she founded in 2000 (another first for a black woman). Through this ministry, “Mama T,” as she is affectionately called, has mentored over 100 spiritual daughters, received an honorary doctorate degree and was ordained into the Christian Ministry on December 16, 2008, from St. Thomas Christian College and Theological Seminary and the Association of Christian Churches in Jacksonville, Florida. She was also was named Extraordinary Woman of the Year 2008 by Mrs. Julie Clinton, Host of the Extraordinary Women Conferences an affiliate of the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Thelma has been married to George Wells, her best friend, supporter, and encourager, for over 45 years. The couple lives in Dallas, Texas, and has three children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Interview with Author Thelma Wells

THELMA: Before I begin, let me first say, if you and/or a loved one are in a crisis situation and you need immediate assistance, please call your local emergency number or the mental health crisis hotline listed in your local phone book.

In your introduction, you state that you’ve been there – you’ve been depressed. Tell us about that.

Yes, I have. This story is told in detail in the book, however, I had surgery several years ago and within a few days the incision split open and my intestines were exposed. This was probably by far the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. After a quick trip back to the hospital to repair the damage, I spent over a year bed-ridden, disabled, and recovering. I’m not the kind of person to lie down and take things slow, especially when it’s forced on me. Yet, in this situation I had no choice but to stop and heal. It wasn’t easy and I faced a lot of fears and I experienced situational depressed during this time.

How do you define depression?

Some of us are more prone to depression than others. The influences that bring us down in our spirits can come from many sources and directions. Depression can be a complex picture. But let’s face it. The main reason we get despondent is simply because life happens. And nobody’s life is a constant procession of uplifting, rejuvenating, invigorating experiences. Everybody’s life has downers. We easily get off-balance in so many ways, and this hurts. The TV commercial that says, “Depression hurts” is true.

Does your book focus on one type of depression?

For most of us, the depression we typically encounter isn’t the severe or clinical category, medically speaking. The typical depression is situational. This doesn’t mean they’re painless or less important or harmless.

Dr. Archibald D. Hart, a leading Christian psychologist and dean emeritus of the School of Psychology at Fuller Theological Seminary writes, “While these depressions are not usually as serious as the biological ones, they can be much more difficult to cope with.”

In your first Chapter, you talk about “Who get’s depressed?” Does depression affect certain groups of people more than others?

Every year depression strikes more than 35 million in the United States alone. We’re seeing depression with frightening regularity in ourselves, our relatives, and our friends. Dr. Harts states, “There is hardly a family today that is not touched by depression’s tentacles.” Depression affects people of all social classes, all races, and all cultures, but there’s one group that’s especially hard hit…women. Also there is an alarming increase in children and the elderly.

What are the triggers and causes of depression?

Psychology Information Online, which includes content provided by the National Institute on Mental Health, notes that “a depressive episode” can be triggered by “a serious loss, chronic illness, relationship problems, work stress, family crisis, financial setback, or any unwelcome life change.” Sometimes depression is brought on by an underlying disease or biochemical disorder. Whatever the cause of our depression, it needs to be faced and understood realistically—and then accepted for what it truly is.

Does the Bible speak about depression?

It does in several places and we see it in the lives of David, Jeremiah, and Paul. Psalms 42 and 43 together represent the cry of a downcast soul—someone who is hurting and thirsting for God. Paul describes our loving Father as “God, who comforts the downcast” (2 Corinthians 7:6).
Christians do get depressed, but it’s a temporary state. God allows us to experience it as a means to attaining something better. Our hope and contentment are based on seeing our past and present difficulties as gifts from God to prepare us and enable us to do more for Him by sharing Christ, finding delight in God and what He ordains.

What are the steps you outline for “Doing something about it.” And why are these important?

• Get It All Out – talk to somebody about how you’re feeling. Emotionally and mentally, talking about your feelings is a healthy thing to do. Everybody needs somebody to confide in. That’s right. Everybody.

• Take Care of Yourself Physically – How healthy we are physically always impacts our mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

• Don’t be Deceived – Your emotions can fool you into questioning or not knowing what’s real or not real. Depression can cause some strange symptoms.

• You’re Your Own Captive Audience – People talk to themselves. We all do it. When we talk to ourselves, we need to watch what we’re saying. You see, when we talk to ourselves, we invoke our consciousness. And in our conscious awareness, we truly hear what we say. Our subconscious hearts it—and believes it! Then our creative self-conscious gets busy working it out…whether or not it’s true, real, positive, negative, or healthy.

Hope is a key word used throughout the book, but especially in the last chapter. What does the mystery of hope mean?

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick...” (Proverbs 13:12). Hope and prayer always go together. In fact, prayer is the voice of hope. When there’s hopelessness, prayer dries up and blows ways. Real hope is huge! To have a biblical hope found in Ephesians 4:1-16 is to possess “living hope.”

From page 99 to page 109, I discuss the facets of hope that we can attain when we refocus our attention from us to God. Our living hope is not in things, people’s opinions, positions, status, or any tangible findings of life. No, it rests upon the spiritual and emotional stability of our minds on the only wise God, our Father, who can help us in our depressed states every day. This living hope is in Jesus, the Anointed One, whose job it is to redeem us for all things that oppress us. The only hope for the world is Jesus. The only help for the world is a touch from God.

You spend a whole chapter on “Looking Outward.” Why is this important?

At the risk of bursting someone’s bubble…the world doesn’t revolve around you. I know you might have thought it did. I used to think the same thing about me. One of the best ways to deal with depression is to do something for somebody without expecting anything in return.

Search for a volunteer organization, mentor a child or young person, or find someone who needs help with something and help them. Do something. That’s the key.

I have several activities available via my ministry that offer opportunities to people to connect with others. Over this past week I have had the words Stand your ground flash before me. As I was sleeping last night just the word Stand appeared before me. In fact it was placed so heavy in my spirit that I could not go back to sleep. So I did what I do best in times as such and went before God.

I know in my personal life I have been consulting Him on some things that I felt was misaligned. One circumstance in particular I knew wasn't the perfect plan for my life; I knew it was time to release myself from the very thing that was weighing my heart down. I am not a quitter by far but when you know like you know that your season is up, no matter how short it is you must be obedient.

I have a heart for the people and anything I start I like to finish but God was clearly telling me, your time is up. Being in this fleshly body I have been going back in forth with the what-ifs, how could you, etc. But on tonight I felt the pressure of it all and couldn't ignore what God has been telling me all week.

I finally asked Him what do you mean by the word stand and this is what He told me.

S: Sit in His presence. Often times especially with women we tend to become so busy we neglect God in taking care of everyone else. Just as Martha did we become busy with those tasks we deem as being important and a priority.

But His word tells us to seek His Kingdom first and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. We must learn to be a Mary and sit at His feet with humility, shifting our task and priorities so we may follow Jesus and show honor to Him. When we are in His presence it is also helping us with our discernment. (Scripture Ref. Luke 10:38-42; Matt. 6:33)

T: Totally Surrender. I can't stress enough that we are bought with a price. From the minute that we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are no longer in control. It's easy for most to do the first part and accept Him as our Savior but when will we totally surrender and allow Him to become our Lord.

Many times we may wonder the why's in our life but we often bring it upon ourselves by kicking God out of the driver's seat and taking over. When will we totally surrender and let God be in total control for the rest of our life? He has great rewards for us but will we grow weary, become rebellious and allow our vision to become cloudy by what we see? (Scripture Ref. Josh. 24:15, John 12:26, Ps.31:14, Ps. 37:4-7, John 5:30)

A: Adoration. We must get back to being in awe of God's glory, to reverence Him like never before. We must go beyond loving Him for all that He has done, all that He is doing and all that He continues to do. We must allow Him to elevate us higher where we are face-to-face with Him. He desires to have us in His rare circle where you can discover the very essence of who He is.

He desires to show you not only His heart but He wants you to feel His heart. Since we are in this earth realm we often look and even pray from an earthly perspective but when we develop pure adoration for the Father, we tend to look at things through the heavenly realm, we tend to pray from a heavenly perspective and that's where we will also find our perfect peace. (Scripture Ref. Ps. 8, Ps. 34:3, Ps. 46)

N: Never lose Faith. Faith is everything! We must not grow weary or faint when waiting on the promises of God. The enemy will attempt to throw all kinds of illusions your way to stray you from God's perfect plan but remember it's a setup. We must continue to walk by faith and not focus on what our eyes see but what God's word have to say.

If it doesn't align with His word then it is not of Him; simple as that. He will reward those who diligently seek Him; He will also turn that negative situation around. It's not good enough to just believe but you must take action also. The simplest way to increase your Faith is begin reading your word out loud. The enemy has only three main goals: to steal, to kill and to destroy. Keep your eyes on the prize God has for you. (Scripture Ref. Isa. 40:31, Ps. 30:11, Heb. 11:1, Heb. 11:6, 2 Cor. 5:7, James 2:20, John 10:10)

D: Desire Him more than anything else. As mentioned earlier we must seek Him and keep God first in our life. Do not worry about the cares of this life. Yes we need resources to survive but we must remember that He is a Father with unlimited resources. He will supply all of your needs that align with His word. (Ps. 55:22, Matt. 6:33, Matt. 6:25-34, Phil. 4:19, Eph. 3:20)

I pray that this has been a blessing to you. This has certainly reignited my soul and I now know I will continue to STAND.

Beware of the Clouders...

It's important to be careful of the clouders that may be around you. Clouders are those individuals who you choose to share your vision with but make every attempt to cloud your vision. Often times the attempts are made out of selfishness; maybe the individual is a close friend that has a fear of losing you. Maybe they feel you will forget about the "little" people as God continues to elevate you. Learn how to listen to the voice behind the word and be on guard.

Once God has refined your vision and given you 20/20 vision, do not allow anyone to come in and throw impurities your way. Do not run the risk of developing tunnel vision or becoming nearsighted or farsighted. Discern the spirit of those not only in your outer circle but inner circle as well.

Ask God to give you the green light on whom to share your vision with. Just as a mother is protective of her newborn baby, we also must be protective with the vision God has entrusted us with. Much success on your journey; stay empowered!

You Are In Great Hands...

In a time were the world seems to be crumbling right before our eyes, some believers may be wondering will they ever receive the promise. Many are holding on to the last trickle of faith wondering where is God in the midst of the storm.

Know that God is right there and you are indeed in great hands. Why worry about circumstances you have no control over; remember you and I are bought with a price. I saw a sign hanging up that said “If God said it, then I believe it and that’s that!” How true is that statement. We must impress this on our hearts and know that we are in great hands.

God and the promise He has made to you cannot be rushed. If you were baking a cake and the directions said leave in for 40 minutes, what do you think would happen if you took the cake out after only baking for 15 minutes? Yep the cake would be half done.

The same holds true with the promises of God. Whatever the promise is whether being your soul mate, new job, home, new car, etc what appears to be a delay may in fact be God working it out in your favor. The spouse He has for you may seem as though their on hold but in the meantime God is preparing both of you; allowing both parties to grow and develop into that type of mate that’s needed for a successful marriage.

That new job God has for you may seem as though it’s delayed but in fact God could be waiting until bad management is moved out or the CEO changes the pay policy and offer higher wages. That new home may seem as though it’s delayed but God could be knocking off thousands of dollars so you may afford your dream home.

By now I hope you are getting my point that you are in great hands. No more worries, no more restless nights, no more wasted tears because God knows the beginning to the end and everything in between. Remember He has a perfect plan already made out for you just let God be God. Your turn is coming.

How To Find Yourself....

As I look around in a society filled with various degrees of pain and individuals in search of something to fill voids, it occurred to me that there is a simple way to become whole.

We all have heard our parents, motivational speakers, teachers, people in the community say "it's time I found myself" or if talking to a child "it's time you go out and find yourself". I can say I am even guilty in making this statement to myself and others.

But how does one find him or her self? Is it really possible to go out and find you? After all, most do not take the time to get to know themselves so how can you go out and find you? The more a person ponder on this question the more it will dawn on you that it's totally impossible for you to go out in find yourself.

Now someone is saying I beg to differ, I found myself 10 years ago and feel complete. And that's great! But my question to you is how did you go about finding yourself? The type of solution I am talking about cannot be found through careers, marriages, money, friends or various material possessions but only through Christ Jesus.

This is one of those times in life that it pays to be a loser but the benefits are far greater. In order to be found you must first lose your life to Jesus and the work/assignments that God already preplanned for you in His Kingdom. Once this occurs a person is made whole and never has to worry about finding themselves.

The only thing this person has to do is press their ear to our Father's lips and He will lead, guide and direct. He will make your crooked paths straight and become the best consultant that this earthly realm has ever seen (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Sometimes the journey gets tough but He will never let any harm come to you but it's important to stay in His will. Don't get caught in the illusion that the enemy throws your way because if a person does, they will run the risk of losing "themselves" and trying to "find it again".

Ask Yourself: Am I ready to be a loser on this day?

Saying Goodbye Is Never Easy To Do...

Goodbye is such an easy word to say and such a hard thing to do. On Saturday April 5,2008 my grandmother passed away and even though I knew the end was near, I was in denial. I was out of state on job assignment and was very confident that at the end of May when I return to Texas, she would still be there.

I knew I would see her smiling at me when I said "Hey grandma, remember me?" And she would say "Yeah the loud one." I knew I would get to hear her say "I love you" to me just once more. But reality has set in and I know that will never be.

I could easily beat myself up with the "What If's" in life, but the truth is you never know when a person time is truly up. My grandmother's death is an eye-opener for me. It has made me realize what's really important to me and that is family.

Society has brain washed most people into thinking work is the only thing that's important. Yes it feels good to have a pocket full of money, nice material things, but I would trade it all just to have one more day with my grandmother.

To hear her laugh, tell me one of her colorful stories, or even make a special trip to the store to get her fav; cheetos and a Pepsi (bottle not can). Or how nice would it be just to give her a slight peck on the cheek. There's a part of me that's empty, but I know I must be strong, allow myself to mourn and move forward because brighter days are yet to come.

I wrote this not to make you feel sad but for you to realize that some things in life are priceless, for instance a grandmother's love. When was the last time you had a nice family dinner or a weekend outing? How about a nice board game of Scrabble?

Never let the "I love you's" become a thing of the past. No matter how dysfunctional you feel your family may be, cherish them; hold them close, because one day all you will have are the memories. So I close saying until we meet again Goodbye Leola Burrows, I will always love you.

Interview with Author K.M. Johnson

K.M., the title of your book is, Knowing The Struggle Is Over! which is very fitting for the current economic situation. I know some people may be wondering, though, what exactly is the struggle?

Honestly, I get that question often. The struggle is not your typical financial situation, or necessarily an addiction that I am speaking of. Though those are two great examples, a struggle is actually any situation, trial or tribulation you may find yourself in. When you find yourself in a struggle, it often means that you have come to a point where you must make a decision and ultimately a choice! I say this with the understanding that everything we do daily is a choice. Whether or not we say or do something is a decision that we as a person have consciously made on our own, regardless if it is wrong or right.

In your book you tell the reader that they can get through any struggle in just three steps! So what are these three steps?

The first step is to Stop Complaining. Now I must admit I did say you can get through your struggle in just three steps, but I never said it would be easy! ;) During this first step we are focusing on renewing our mind, and changing the way we view the things that are happening to us. Oftentimes, we become so caught up in the world around us that we forget about the God within us!

The second step is to Let Go and Let God. For myself this was the hardest step.
Mainly because I had NO idea what it meant to literally "Let Go and Let God!" Once I had an understanding, it became a natural sequence in restoring my faith in God in regards to my situation.

The third step is to Acknowledge Him. Some may see that as easy and obvious, but how often do we "know" what to do and still we "don't" do it! You have to develop a major spirit of praise and give Him ALL of the glory for everything big and small. The noticeable things in our lives we always seem to give Him the glory, but God is truly in the details as well! When we begin to pay attention, and notice how He is moving and working in our lives, that is when we can truly praise Him! And a praise like that becomes a sincere and spirit filled praise! It's not forced, and you won't even have to second guess.

How did God lead you to writing this book?

It's funny and I talk about this at the beginning of my book, but at the beginning I received revelation on my drive home to Gulfport, Ms. from Houston, TX for Christmas. I was on I10 somewhere in Louisiana, and I began praying about my situation. As I finished praying, I remember thinking, "I should write a book."

Now what is interesting is that not only did God impress upon me the strong desire to write a book, but He also gave me the title, and contents during that drive! By the time I had made it to my mother's house, I was so excited because I knew I was about to write this book called, "Knowing The Struggle Is Over" and I was going to have three steps that would help you accomplish just that!

If I were a writer this wouldn't have sounded so crazy! ;) I never really had a true interest in writing an actual book before then. The only thing I had ever considered prior to that day was writing a children's fiction book, or maybe a few songs/poems. A non-fiction book? Absolutely NOT!

Why did you feel that it was so important to write a book about getting through a struggle?

At first I was excited because I had heard God! I mean, at the time I had been praying and constantly, but I that was the first time I could remember Him telling me to do something outside of my situation. This was around the time I began to understand "how" to be obedient.

You see I also realized that what I was going through, and even what I had gone through in the past, was not for me alone, but to share with others. It's great to learn from your own mistakes, but it''s even better when you can learn from someone else's! I also realized that I wasn't in a bad place, I was just looking in the wrong place! In order to truly overcome my situations my faith had to be stronger.

The bible tells us that every man is given a measure of faith, and in another scripture it tells us that all we have to have is faith the grain of a mustard seed, but I began to realize that it is easy to forget you even have that faith sometimes! So I had to find a way to get it back, each and every time, it started to look as if it wanted to disappear! Most of the time we stay in a situation because we don't know what choice or decision to make that will get us out!

Please share anything else that would help us understand the writing of your book and how it helps others.

I truly just would like for your readers to know that with everything you go through, God is preparing you for the next level He wants to take you to in life. Sometimes we think that we have a relationship and we know who God is, and we really don't. Just because you spent time with Him last week doesn't mean you can ignore Him this week.

To better understand how He works and is working in our lives we have to continuously strive for a closer, more intimate relationship with Him daily! God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, but that doesn't mean to put limits on Him, that just means to trust Him. If He did it before then surely He will do it again! We begin to lose faith because we aren't spending enough time getting to know Him.

You get through your situations, by restoring your faith and developing a closer relationship with God. Everyone has an area in their relationship with God where their faith is not at the level it COULD be! If your faith is a 10 on a 1-10 scale, then strive for a 15. All this will do is help you see the other side much more clearer. Then you will find that when you are in your situation you have a confidence, and renewed peace, with an unimaginable strength to make it through!

Live, Have Fun and Stop Being Religious...

E.G.O. Thought: Is hiding behind religion causing you not to live?

It's sad to say that daily I see individuals who shout, stomp, and praise God all day long. These individuals attempt to get involved in every church function and if the church was open 7 days a week, their vehicle would be the first in the parking lot. And please do not let church be cancelled for the week because those same individuals would be totally lost. I am not trying to be funny but I have known people like that. In fact I use to be one of them.

Now before most look too much into this, let me say it's nothing wrong with being on fire for God. I have an awesome relationship with Him and am not ashamed to share the goodness of my Father with others.

The problem is, that's all these individuals do. They have no life and tend to mask it by saturating themselves in “Godly” activities. We must remember that no amount of good deeds will get us into heaven. In fact, I only participate in the activities that God has led and given me the green light to participate in. When people tend to fall in this category, these individuals are what I call hiding behind the religion.

God created this beautiful earth for us to enjoy. How can folks truly see the God in a person if they are hiding behind the church building, the praise and worship music, the cross one wears around their neck, the bumper stickers that proclaim their love for Jesus, the loud amen’s and yes Lords during church services?

There are many people that have all the outward attire of being Godly but are miserable behind closed doors. They have God in their life but yet these people still do not have a life. Their life is stuffy; their air is hard to breathe. Why is that? Do they not trust all God has taught them?

Now I know someone might be saying, “Well God is my life and there is nothing wrong with that.” And they are partially right. God is my life, I place Him first and I am nothing without Him but my Father expects me to LIVE. I will take it one step further and say to not only live but live life in abundance, until it overflows.

If every time someone sees these individuals all they hear is “religious stuff”, if every time a person is around those individuals and see their noses turned up at the most harmless jokes, it’s time for those people to go before God for a checkup because something in their life is out of alignment. Most will not see the God in that person but will end up seeing a stiff neck religious person and most run in the opposite direction. I mean let’s be real, who really wants to be around a stuffy person? If you are wondering how do I know this? Simple, God told me.

I would never forget when I was in a season where God had me behind closed doors. During that time God had made me so spiritually strong and when the time came for me to interact with folks again, I didn’t want to. I liked the time me and God had together; it was like the perfect relationship. I would get invited to various functions and simply did not want to go. I didn’t want to deal with all the drama I could potentially come across by interacting with people.

Well one day, God said “Sonja why are you hiding behind these four walls? If you close yourself off from the world, how can I use you to bring the people out of darkness? How can my light shine before men, when you are hiding my light behind these four walls? Sonja go and live, trust yourself and me that I have taught you well. I dare you to trust me.” And that is exactly what I did.

God created us in His likeness and image so that means that God is not some uptight person, looking down on us at the first mistake we make. He expects us to live and have fun. Anyone who has a deep relationship with God will tell you that God is not angry or sad all the time but in fact, He also has a funny sense of humor!

So I will leave you saying this, if you are not living life in abundance or is hiding behind the religion asks yourself why. Why rob yourself out of the life He has taken the time to create for you? We are not robots but children of God. All of this beautiful creation, He created for you and I to enjoy to the fullest. So live, laugh, love and have some Kingdom fun!

The Voice of A Victim...

I remember the day I received the unfortunate news that I had only twelve months to live. At that particular moment my life flashed before my eyes. No more going for my daily strolls.

No more growing my favorite vegetables. No more planting my favorite rose; yes the red rose. How would I tell my family that one day they would wake up and I would no longer be there?

How could I tell my family that one day soon, I would be too weak to walk, dress, bathe or even feed myself? How could I tell my grand-kids that I will never get to see them graduate from college or have a family of their own?

I was no stranger to this deadly disease; after all it had killed five of my brothers before me. So why didn't I stand up to this monster and try to break this vicious cycle? My name is George Burrows and I died March of 1999 from lung cancer.

I miss you so much papa. I love you and am so grateful to have had you in my life. Thank you so much for being my provider, my protector, my rock and my friend.

Random Thoughts...

I am restless tonight with random thoughts dancing around in my mind. One in particular is the amount of teenagers who are currently pregnant and those who are trying their hardest to get pregnant. It saddens me that these individuals are searching for love or think in their mind a baby is the solution.

One day while I was waiting to pick my little sister up from school, I counted at least five girls who were pregnant. I sat and thought to myself, do these children have any idea how hard it is to raise a child? I often wonder what circumstances led those young girls down that path. You cannot help but think what is really going on?

I had one person in particular tell me, it is the norm for teenage girls to get pregnant. Someone else told me after seeing one of their friends get pregnant and bringing the baby to school, they wanted one too. I had another girl say that the baby class at their local school influenced them to want a baby. And when asked how so, their response was simply, the class made it look easy.

Could it be peer pressure? Could it be the media? Could it be that our young ladies do not feel loved? Could it be baby classes offered at local schools? Could it be parents are too busy working and not paying attention to who their children friends are? Or did these young ladies decide to just experiment and this was the outcome for their actions?

When will our young Queens see that their self worth does not equal sex? When will they stop falling for the same tired lines that have been used since the beginning of time? When will our young Kings see the value in these young Queens? Our children should see the value in their temples.

There are many unanswered questions and so many parents becoming grandparents at an earlier age. We all were teenagers once and know the dangers of this world. We must not be afraid to educate, love, and nurture our children. Yes, we have all heard kids will be kids but it is time for parents to be parents.

I believe sometimes parents are caught up with creating a certain lifestyle for their children, that it becomes easier to compromise their standards and just play the “let’s be friends” role after a long day of work. Maybe I am wrong but many children say their parents do not pay attention to them and honestly feel as though their parents do not care. While some are out chasing the all mighty dollar, our children are getting lost along the way.

We all have a part to play and yes, “kids will be kids”. However, parents do not compromise in being parents. At least at the end of the day, we can have peace of mind by saying I have done all I could do to steer them in the right direction.

I believe this cycle can end but where do we begin? Just random thoughts dancing in my mind…take care.

Hello God Are You There?

I have prayed to God concerning my situation and have not doubted in my heart, however I still have not heard His voice concerning this matter. Does this statement sound familiar? We all have been there but it dawned on me that maybe just maybe God is testing you (and I) with His silence.

We are so use to pressing our ear to God lips, having Him lead and guide us every step of the way but what do you do when all you hear is silence? What do you do when in the natural it seems as though the world around you is crumbling down and you are waiting to hear from God?

Be still. Sometimes our test can be in waiting for God to speak directly to our hearts and not moving until the one who is in charge instruct us in the matter. That silent moment from God is a test of your faith as well as those times when He gives specific instructions. Simply find peace by staying in His presence and just be still.

Will you steer off course to run your own race or will you be still and know that He is God? The choice is yours choose wisely.

Let's Get Drunk Together...

E.G.O. Thought: Are You Drunk In Your Purpose?

I would like to share briefly the definition of drunk according to freedictionary.com: Overcome by strong feeling or emotion.

Quite often I encounter women who express to me they desire to live a purposeful life. Many struggle with self-esteem issues, neglecting one self for family and/or work, afraid to think or even step outside the box. Everyone has a purpose but what is yours? What brings out your heart desires? What are you willing to sacrifice to obtain fulfillment in your life? Is it really easier going through the motions in life rather than taking a leap of faith? Are you ready to separate yourself from the negative habits, people, and/or environment to walk in your purpose?

These are all valid questions that only you can answer. Walking in your purpose will bring about a feeling that causes a person sometimes to cry tears of joy. Why? Because there is freedom when you are walking in your true purpose. I say true purpose because many will try to create an illusion and the outcome is always the same: bondage just a different type. Your purpose will not only free you in the natural but your soul will be free. You will have more confidence, peace of mind and enjoy the smallest things in life!

Are you ready for the great life? Yes, the life that will leave you in a permanent drunken state of joy, motivation, empowerment, and inspiration.

Personally, my purpose is to improve the quality of life for women in the areas of health, relationships, community, finances, and spirituality. My heart yearns and burns deep with passion to assist women in their empowerment journey. My purpose often leaves me in a drunken state, bringing out my deepest emotion, filling my heart with joy and creating a new song in my soul daily. Your purpose should do the same!

Take some time out to get to know you. If you are not walking in your purpose, ask yourself why not. Your purpose will bring out many of your natural gifts. You must be ready to take a leap of faith and put action with that faith. Walking in your purpose will give you the best high you have ever experienced.

Are you ready to get drunk in your purpose? Come on don’t just take a sip, drink the whole thing. This drink is free but will cost you everything if you let the opportunity pass you by.

Unpredictable Situation But a PERMANENT Healing

The Healing at the Pool
1 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast of the Jews.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda[a] and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.[b]
5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?"
7 "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
8 Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."
9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

Food for thought: Do you want to get well?

Let’s face it, many people appear to be in hopeless situations. Daily seeking help in all the wrong places, discovering quickly there is no one to help them. The above passages are significant because it teaches that God finds each of us at one point in our life helpless as this man.

Maybe you are not an invalid but your entire being is plagued with depression, alcoholism, prostitution (which by the way comes in various forms), fear, rage, insecurities, self-doubt, etc. God wants to grant you healing right now.

Here in this story we find a man who heart yearns to be healed but just don’t know how. How many of you have restless days and nights trying to figure out how YOU will make YOUR situation better?

Jesus knew that this man had been ill for a very long time, yet he posed the question "do you want to get well"(vs.6). Why do you think Jesus asked that question? Simple: He wanted to reveal this man heart.

You must have a heart of faith, of expectancy. This man could have easily thought about the what ifs, such as how am I going to find the strength to walk after all these years and allow fear to consume him, but he didn't.

See most people when they have gotten so use to being a certain way, they become afraid to walk into the unknown. STOP trying to figure out the hows in life. When conversating with Jesus clearly the man wanted to be healed and even told Jesus how his healing could take place.

I mean imagine that, this man has no idea divine healing is about to take place! Instead of prolonging the process, Jesus immediately gives this man complete healing. Verse 8: Then Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk" is so powerful because not only does healing takes place but also renewed strength!

God is telling you He wants to strengthen you like never before. It's time to PICK UP YOUR MAT AND WALK!! God has made a way for you and me. Yes you may have been patiently waiting or trying to figure it out on your own for years.

You do not have to wait any longer, God is ready to pour down an unexpected healing with renewed strength. Will you continue to allow those addictions, those sins to keep you an invalid? Or will you accept God open invitation to heal you at the pool?

What makes me a winner? This question may seem like a difficult one to answer, but in fact it is easy to answer. I believe what makes a person a winner is persevering when the world says it is impossible. It is easy to take on a lazy mentality but a winner will follow through with their goals. After all isn't that what self discipline is all about?

Pushing and fighting your way through every chain of bondage until the chains were finally broken off is what makes you a winner. Yes you my dear who cried many of nights. Yes you dear who continue to walk by faith and not by sight. When the world says no you continued to yell a loud YES!

So congrats to you for staying in the race; for you are indeed a winner in my eyes!

Little Lesson On Faith...

On yesterday I attended an awesome Setting the Captives Free Prayer & Bible Teaching that was taught by Prophetess V. Green. She has been teaching on Faith and I wanted to share with you briefly what I learned about faith on last night. Children of God this is our NOW season but do you believe? Will you continue to confess His word in spite of what you see? Let this be a refresher course and I pray God gives you the desires of your heart.

Quick Overview of Faith:

1. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

2. Faith is Action.

3. Faith is Right Now.

4. Faith is Trust.

Start Living...

Everyday I encounter individuals who profess the love they have for God and that is all-good. However, individuals has also express to me they have no life outside of God and that is a concern of mine. I remember when I would spend eight plus hours a day in my room just God and me. In that season, God had called me before Him and needed my undivided attention but He still wanted me to live!

I totally had shut out the world, it was just me, and God but you know what God told me? He said, “Sonja go out and start living, no one can see my light behind four walls.”

I started thinking, He is right. What is the point of getting all that wisdom and power and stay hiding behind four walls? Some may not agree but that is exactly what people do everyday.

My question to you is why are you hiding? Do you not trust what God has instilled in you enough to go out and start living? Do you trust yourself? In this world full of darkness and hopelessness, our light is needed to shine brightly.

God is love and created this beautiful world; just look around you and see the natural beauty on this earth. He doesn't wants us to become religious and hide behind the religion but to enjoy every aspect of life...so get out and have fun. If you believe in God but feel as if you have no life, maybe it is time to check your "religious" walk! Let His light shine before men...yes not only at church but also at the bowling alley, movies, grocery store, mall, etc.

Bottom Line: Keep God #1 and enjoy life! With that being said, start living and show those who are lost that you can have fun and a relationship with God.

He Still Wants To Use You...

As I was sitting here praising and worshipping our Heavenly Father on this beautiful December morning, this message dropped in my spirit to share. The enemy is attempting to plant seeds of negativity that our Father who art in Heaven does not want to use you for His Kingdom. The enemy is attempting to place seeds of doubt into the minds of God’s chosen vessels because of their past.

Our Father wants you to know on this day, that you are still needed. Now hear me and hear me clearly, you is referring to His children. Yes those who have come into the knowledge of truth and for what every reason is still in bondage to some sin. Even as believers you will fall sometime but it is not to keep you down.

God is drawing you closer to Him. God is showing you the areas of your life that you are weak in, those areas that will hinder your work in His Kingdom. Do not beat yourself up and allow the enemy to trick you! God still wants to use you…yes YOU! When you are weak, He will make you strong. Confess that sin to God whatever it is big or small and let Him take you through the process of healing and restoration.

Yes, this walk is a process! Yes He will have to mend hearts, knee scrapes, broken bones and even have to go in and do major surgery depending on how deep the pain is. Do not let your wounds become infected by the enemy deception and cause your entire system to be poisoned.

Do not be ashamed any longer of your past! Do not let the spirit of guilt keep you down. Everyone has a dark past and if they say they do not, those people are liar’s bottom line.

Would you believe I use to be heavily involved in cybersex? Photos plaster of me not only in the United States but in other countries as well. Yes, I am not talking about when I still was a sinner living in the world, no I am talking about when I had already accepted Christ into my life, heavily involved in church!

I had a relationship with God and still was in heavy bondage. That is not half of my story; it will literally blow your mind! Am I ashamed of my past…NO! Am I afraid someone from my past will post those horrible pictures on the internet…NO!

Why? For starters, my life is an open book; I do not live my life in fear, shame, or guilt. If I did, I would not be able to share with you my story. I am a child of the Most High and those pictures, videos, etc are a representation of the old me. Yes, the woman who did not see her self worth, who only thought the way to love was lying on her back or performing some other sexual act.

If my Father who is creator of Heaven and Earth can tell me daughter I forgive you, no harm shall come to you, then why would I be ashamed of it. It is a done deal, but many “religious” folks hide behind the religion and that is why folks are in bondage.

I’m sent during this time to empower you, to assist you to arise so you may be in position to be used to set the captives free. I do not care how ugly your past is, YOU ARE CHOSEN! YOU ARE A CHILD OF THE MOST HIGH! YOU ARE JOINT HEIRS WITH CHRIST! YOU ARE MY SISTER AND WILL NOT BE LEFT BEHIND!

Yes, I will talk about issues that most “churches” still refuse to address…so get ready get ready! I have stayed quiet for too long about the darkness that still surrounds God’s original masterpieces and the time has arrived…the time is NOW!

Let our Heavenly Father turn you test into a TESTIMONY, your mess into a MESSAGE, so you may be used as a MESSAGENGER to set the captives free finally.

Remember our Father wants to use you! Yes you, so what are you waiting for…get in His presence TODAY!

Affirmation: I am the apple of my Father’s eye and He has chosen to use me to set the captives free!

I have noticed two things about the winter months: 1) it tends to bring out the goodness in others and 2) the spirit of depression floods many lives.

I am here to tell you, it is time to shake yourself! I mean stand up and really start shaking, twisting, clapping and stomping the negative out of your life. Today is a new day rejoice! No sadness, no what ifs, no woulda, shoulda, coulda moments. No more crying over spilled milk or that loser that never apologized for all the lies, cheating and stealing. Do not give them the victory any longer!

GET IN POSITION AND REJOICE!

This is your day to live life to the fullest. If you or I allow anyone to steal our joy, shame on us. Just as the definition states, we need to be glad, take delight in what is around us.

Ask yourself: What brings joy to my life?

Now rejoice in it! Rejoice in the fact that you woke up this morning. Rejoice in the fact you have running water whether hot or cold. If you are single and that spirit of loneliness starts harassing you, begin rejoicing that you are not in bondage to some toxic relationship.

My point is let us begin challenging ourselves more to focus on the positive, seeing the good in every situation that the enemy tries to use for bad.

This day can never be duplicated, the time can never be preserved so use it rejoicing and laughing in the face of adversity. Happy Rejoicing!

Secret Torment...

Head spinning round and round
Tears trickling down my face
Heartbeat increases, temperature rises
Feeling as though I barely can breathe
Searching with my mind’s eye for a glimmer of hope
Lurking behind bushes trying to catch an ounce of peace
To my surprise none found
Running but do not know from what or what race
The light to my tunnel pushes itself farther away
Seeking but cannot find
Screaming out for help but no sound come from my mouth
Hungry in search of food, anorexic in the worst way…spiritually
One voice trying to be heard in such a self absorbed noisy world
Knocking but no door is opening
In the middle of the desert waiting for rain to come
Standing by the seashore but no ship has arrived
Attempt to walk on water but continues sinking
Waiting to take my last breath but never die
Hello, out there can anyone hear me?
What is this I finally hear in the distance? A horn

Sounds familiar? Know someone who has experienced this? I was awaken in the middle of the night with such a heavy heart. So I do what I do best, just write what’s in my heart to reach the people. Many of you are suffering from this tormenting nightmare of being in a hopeless situation. Maybe you lost a job, maybe you have no food, no car, or have found yourself in the midst of some other storm.

Whatever the case may be this torment cycle has to be broken! Everyday is a new day to continue running the race of faith, finding a way to take one small action step towards your goal. Change is coming but one will ever see the change if they throw in the towel.

Keep digging deep; keep pushing until your new beginning is birth out. Once birthed out, do not stop there but keep soaring higher and higher!

I absolutely love spring time! You hear the birds chirping, beautiful flowers blooming and most stop singing the blues from a gloomy winter.

Spring time is also when most people Spring Clean. Spring cleaning in a nutshell is a thorough cleaning. Do you know one of the biggest challenges of spring cleaning? Getting rid of all that junk you do not need!

When You Are Thrown In The Fire

We all at one point have found ourselves in the midst of a chaotic situation and wonder why. Or maybe you have said to yourself, my faith is up and I am still getting hit from the North, South, East and West.

When you find yourself in an unexpected situation where all odds seem against you, that is what I call getting thrown in the fire. Have you ever just stop to think that God purposely threw you in the fire or to simplify things, placed you right in the center of a particular situation?

To help better understand this, remember the story in the Bible about Daniel in the Lions' Den (Daniel Ch 6)? Daniel was an uncompromising man of God. Even though he did no wrong he was plotted against. See you never know who is watching you, trying to dissect your strong and weak points. The men who plotted against Daniel could find no wrong with him or in him, but they knew that he loved God and had unshakeable faith.

These men thought they had mastered the perfect plan to get rid of Daniel by convincing the King (who was very fond of him and didn't know about the plot against Daniel), to establish a royal statute; that whoever shall ask a petition of any God or man except the King, they shall be cast in the Lions' Den (vs 7).

Do you think that stopped Daniel? No, remember he was an uncompromising man of God. Even though he knew the consequences, he continues to pray to God, which caused him to be thrown in the lions' den. If you are familiar with the story, you know that God allowed no harm to come to Daniel. Why? Because he did no wrong and because of this the King made a new decree that stated that men in his kingdom shall tremble and fear before the God of Daniel vs 26). See how wonderful God is even when you are thrown in the fire.

I feel as though a person is thrown in the fire for 4 reasons:

1) It forces you to confront challenges

2) God does it for His glorification

3) God does it so people can be a witness to His marvelous works

4) Allows you to solely depend on Him, which in return draws you closer to Him.

Remember when thrown in the fire, continue to trust and believe God will pull you out unharmed.

Let's face it we all have experience stress right? I mean how can you totally rid yourself of it: taking care of the kids, spouse, finances, household, work, volunteer work, running a business, planning events and the list goes on! Too much of anything can lead you quickly to a meltdown.

We all know that when our stress levels are reduced, it means having a stronger immune system for you!

Words of Encouragement...

Have you ever had that feeling that people like hearing that you’re lonely? That people want you to hurt? That people like hearing that you are disappointed in yourself? It’s sad but true, because when things are going great in your life and you’re not that broken vessel people are use to seeing, some but not all may begin to treat you differently.

I know for many people this is their year for great things to happen so I want to give you some encouraging words. Whatever it is, you must stay strong. You must believe in the vision God has given to you. Continue to have courage and walk thru that fear. When God is taking you higher, you must let go of "excess baggage" whether it’s depression, an addiction, relationship problems, work or financial related issues.

You may not understand it at that time, but it is not for you to, but instead follows that voice that lives inside. In life sometime you have to walk alone. In my personal life, for years I walked alone, never understanding why I can’t be like "everyone else". Always feeling like the "odd ball".

I look back on some of my heartache and pain and have come to the conclusion that I just wanted to be like "everyone else" causing me years of unnecessary woes. So I made stupid mistakes, but yes learned from them. The lesson I learned was simple, it was never a part of God’s plan for me to be a "face" in the crowd. It was meant for me to standout, to be the "odd ball", yes a leader.

So I tell you today my friends, don’t question why is this happening to me ever again? Never hide behind the mask again. Know that you are special; yes a "Rare jewel". Surround yourself with positive people. Remember if a person has something negative to say every time you’re around them or when sharing your goals and dreams then guess what? YOU DON’T NEED THEM.

It sounds harsh but people will try to keep you in their life for their own selfish reasons. Also remember that some people are only put in your life for a season so don’t holdup your "process" by trying to keep them in your life for a lifetime. Don’t wait for someone to build you up, speak great things over your own life.

Everyday I look in the mirror and say “I am beautiful and God made no mistakes on me...Okay!! Then throughout the day I think of things I am good at and speak it. Yes it seems strange at first because you are not use to complimenting yourself but everyday it gets easier until one day you believe what you are speaking. Bottom line you must believe in yourself, don’t be afraid to take chances in this life and its okay to take the road less traveled.

The Door Is Open…Now Walk Through It

Why do you keep reliving moments in time that have already passed? Why do you allow the pain from your past to force you back in your comfort zone? Why are you afraid of moving forward? Will not you allow me to take you higher?

God asked these questions while I sat in His presence. I honestly did not know what He was talking about, so I asked Him to show me. Have you ever experienced such pain that even when it is gone, you find a way unintentionally to keep it there? Most know about the pain I experienced from my childhood but there is so much more to my story.

God has equipped me to heal those women with a broken heart, to help those women who cannot see their own worth but also those women who faced rejection by the church and played the role of being the other woman for years. Each woman mentioned above story is unique in its own way and there are labels individuals automatically place on those women. Some are good, some are bad, but all these women have one thing in common.

The common factor is me.

At one point in my life, I represented each of those women. Some of the choices I made brought on a lot of pain, guilt, and shame. When God gave me my purpose a few years ago to empower women, I thought ‘what are people going to think when they hear my story?’ See I had no choice but to face my personal demons.

Fast forward to present day, I am living out my dreams and God is quickly taking me higher. Have you ever felt that the blessings were coming in so fast that you wanted to run back to your comfort zone? This may sound strange but it is common. Have you ever entertained reasons for not moving forward? Well maybe I am the only one but my friends our Heavenly Father informed me that is still a form of living in fear.

See we need to get to the root of everything God shows us so nothing will stand in our way of blessings pouring in. Most will not share as God is transitioning them but I do not want anyone to just see the end results but see my journey (what it took to get me there).

Most women feel like they are going through life and their problems alone but I want to grow through life and help that woman see the solutions not the illusion.

God showed me simply I still had residue of the fear of success. I confess to Him my reasons for having that fear, which is simply what if I cannot handle all that you are showing me since the vision is so big.

If anyone out there is trying to fight running back to your comfort zone, do not look back. Your comfort zone is a self-made prison that will keep you in bondage. Remember the spirit of fear is not of God!

I will tell you exactly what God said to me: Is anything too hard for your Father who art in Heaven? Do not be afraid for no harm will come to you. What is impossible to you is possible through me. I have made you self sufficient through Christ sufficiency. The door is already opened…now walk through it.

I pray by me sharing my journey it has encouraged you to walk through your open door.

Stand Up...

Most women who have been abused whether sexually, physically or verbally tend to avoid situations later in life that would allow them to voice their opinion. Big or small, many are afraid of conflict, to stand up for what is right. But there comes a point in each woman's life where she has to rise to the occasion.

Do not live your life in fear but stand up and look fear straight in the face. You are strong and equipped to stand up for what you believe in. Don't follow the crowd but pave your own way; be a trailblazer!

The old saying goes if you do not stand for something you will fall for anything. No matter how many times you have stumbled in the past, today is a new day; so stand up and plant you feet in cement! Remember to stand even if it appears you are standing alone; for help will always be sent your way. Whatever your dreams are make it happen, it's time to start believing in yourself because I already do.

I Won't Complain...

Watching television is not what it use to be twenty years ago; in fact I told someone it is almost like watching a horror movie. Daily tragic stories plaster the screen and another person has lost their life to a senseless act. I was in a season before where I never watched television and now I have been spirit led once again in front of the screen. The first question I asked was “Father what are you trying to show me?”

I often find myself praying for various individuals and other times asking God to have mercy on individuals souls who He shows me are being deceitful. It is one thing to know the LORD but until a person actually feels His very emotion, they have no idea. I have learned and am learning through it all that I will not complain.

Maybe you can relate or know someone who is suffering right now as you are reading this. There may be a mother who has only a few meals left to feed her children with no money in her pocket and contemplating whether to lay on her back just for a few dollars. Someone else body may be in so much pain due to some illness and have no money for their medication. Maybe another woman car was repossessed in the middle of the night and she wakes up only to find she has no way to work. Someone else could have just lost their job and waiting for their unemployment to kick in. Maybe this isn’t you but you know a woman right now that lights got turned off and sits in a cold apartment.

No matter what your personal case may be, we must all learn how to stay in the race of faith. Despite what some may think, even children of God and yes the ones who are living for Him will still run into some challenging times. It seems like when things cannot get worse…BAM another test comes your way. Remember God is not punishing you or I. He will not put more on you than you can bear (and a word to the wise, stop saying you cannot take anymore because He will put more on you to show you exactly how strong He has made you!)

1 Corinthians 10:13 (New International Version)
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Being a child of God doesn’t make us immune to the test and trials. There are plenty of stories in the Bible and many suffered long in order to receive the promises of God. I am not saying we will be happy go lucky all the time but what I am saying is we can not justify the spirit of self pity (another topic for another day).

I believe when we are faced with such challenging obstacles it is not time to complain, complain, complain but instead get in that word, go more before God, get on the phone with a prayer warrior, etc. As children of God it is our responsibility to keep one another uplifted.

Hebrews 3:13 (New International Version)
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.

I will leave you with this personal story:

I have watched plenty of people close to me suffer in their health. My grandmother was one and I remember seeing her in the nursing home, laying in the bed contracted, mouth distorted for she had lost most of her speech and as I held her hand, I asked her how was she doing, my grandmother looked at me and said “ I’m doing fine, how you feeling?” Now you must keep in mind, she was so so weak it took her forever to say those few words.

Even though I saw pain in her eyes...even though I heard exhaustion in her voice…even though there was no energy in her frail body, she said the exact same words she had been saying her entire life even when she was in good health. Not once did anyone hear her complain about the situation she was in. Not once did she curse the day she was born. Not once did she compare her situation to the next. She never said she had a right to complain, she never took on that attitude. God brought that back to my remembrance recently when I felt like I had a right to complain. My grandmother was dear to me, she was one of my best friends, and I see why He used that to hit home with me. I have thought about that day in the nursing home often over the course of this past week and that was Feb. 23, 2008 when this event occurred.

I now have made up in my mind that no matter what type of obstacles comes my way, I have no right at all to complain. I never had to hang on the cross at Calvary so I will continue to run the race of faith in hopes of joining my forefathers in the Hall of Faith (Read Hebrews Ch. 11)….how about you?

Leaving Yesterday Behind...

Someone ask why is it that you don't let things get to you? Simple I have learned and AM learning that today is a new day and yesterday is just that yesterday.

Why is it that when we are faced with a negative situation or emotion we tend to dwell on the very thing that provides the least comfort? We do our very best to hold on even bringing that negative emotion or replaying that negative situation into a new day. Most will go to bed saying "today was a bad day because __________________ (fill in the blank) hurt me, got on my nerves, etc. I have to see him/her tomorrow at work or I can't stand being under the same roof with this person; I know tomorrow will be just as worse."

If a person go to bed thinking negative why act surprise when negativity greet you on a new day? After all isn't what you expected?

Every person needs to get to a point that even when negativity comes our way, we must not let it cripple us and stunt our positive growth. Pain is a part of life but how one embrace the pain and move forward is up to that individual.

What if we were not given a new day but had to keep reliving yesterday? Did you make yesterday the best it could have been? Were you angry because someone cut you off in traffic? Did someone just inform you of some terrible news and you felt depressed behind it? Did you not make one sale today and let that decide the success of your company? Did you make up in your mind you were not going to forgive that cheating boyfriend? Did you stub your toe while cleaning house that left you in a sour mood all day? Are you beating yourself up daily, consumed with guilt behind mistakes you had made that cause you to lose everything financially?

All of the above examples were scenarios I have experienced at some point in my life. I have learned that I was blessed to see another day not to dwell on the past but to make the most out of my new day.

Everyday meditate on the words new day and embrace that very concept in every area of your life. It is a new day to explore new possibilities, to show love and kindness even when the other person refuse, to have peace, to deepen your relationship with God and let go of the past.

Today is a new day and yesterday...well is just that yesterday.

Fresh Wind...

Have you hit a dry spell in some area of your life? Do you find yourself experiencing frustration more than joy? Confusion more than peace? Sadness more than happiness?

This may be a great time to ask our Heavenly Father to blow a fresh wind your way. Sometimes when a person feel they are at a stand still in their life, all that person may need is for their spirit to be renewed.

Allow Him to restore you to the fullest. If you need a fresh wind to blow your way, make time and have a little talk with the Most High.

John 3:8 "The wind blows (breathes) where it wills; and though you hear its sound,yet you neither know where it comes from nor where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." (AMP)

Learning to be Content..

Philippians 4:11 "Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am."

Ask yourself "Am I content despite my situation?"

As Women of God and the carriers of life, it is of the utmost importance that we learn how to be content just as the Apostle Paul did. The only way to learn how to be content is through experience of having to do without from time to time and being thrown on the battlefield.

Noticed the above verse didn't say be content when things are only going good. In fact because of the statement "in whatever state I am", this is letting us know that there were circumstances He faced but was still content.

Women we must all learn how to be more content with what we already have. We must be content whether we are full or hungry. We must learn how to be content whether happy or sad. We must learn how to be content with what we know or don't know. We must learn how to be more content whether we feel like we are prospering or not.

When it seems as though your situation is perplexed, look at it as training. God is strategically training you and providing the skills one need to adapt and be well rounded. As Women of God, Power and Purpose you will be better equipped to adapt to change than an individual who does not have Kingdom Strategies in place.

Importance of Friendship

Over the span of our life, we will have different encounters with individuals and most automatically get the title of being our "friend" or even "best friend". Friends are very important but the honest truth is most will come and go. Not everyone is meant to be in your life for an entire lifetime but yet some just for a season.

Throughout your lifetime you will run into a small amount of individuals who truly deserve the title of being a true friend. But friendship is like everything else and requires maintenance for optimal performance. True friends are hidden treasures; hold them close to your heart. They are great stress relievers and are always there to provide comfort.

True friends do not tell you what you want to hear or what feels good but indeed the truth, no matter whether it's good or bad they look after your best interest. When you find that special life long friend, do not let no devil in hell take them from you. Yes the enemy will come in and throw distractions your way, try to stir up emotions but do not give him the victory at all! That person is worth it, after all the enemy loves confusion.

Me personally I come in contact with extraordinary people everyday but I honestly only have a handful of friends who love me unconditionally. Not a day goes by that I am not praying for them, thanking my Heavenly Father for them. So in closing, let your friends know how much you treasure them, let them know they are loved and valued. Life is too short and never take anyone for granted, you never know when their time is up.

Love hard and laugh a lot!!

Surrending All

There are many people out in the world that has come into the knowledge of God but continues to runaway from the presence of God, surrounding themselves in darkness. It's time to step outside of your "comfort" zone. I was once that person, hiding behind my "comfort" zone which in fact brought me more misery.

There is nothing more sacred than allowing God to love all on you. It's time to get your true deliverance from God never turning back to that "comfort" zone. Does that mean that we won't fall short of the glory from time to time? Of course not for His word says"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)

What it does mean is we will make a stand and began speaking God's word to the enemy. What it mean is we will continue to press. What it mean is we will continue to walk a straight and narrow path. What it mean is we will stop running. What it mean is we will ask God to began taking us deeper and deeper in His word. What it mean is we will surrender all to Daddy God and take our hands off of it. What it mean we will speak the vision to other's instead of them speaking the vision to us.

Whatever is keeping you in your self made "comfort" zone, LET GO AND LET GOD!!! Are you hearing me? LET GO AND LET GOD AND TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF OF IT ONCE AND FOR ALL!! God's word says "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." (Proverbs 3:5)

***I have a simple but powerful exercise for you to perform.

I want you to stand in front of a wall, pick any wall in your home. Now that wall is representing your own understanding. Now I want you to put all of your weight and strength on it. Give it your all; you can do this for however long you desire.

The purpose of this exercise is to allow you to see, when each of us make the decision to lean on our own understanding, no matter how hard we try to figure things out, our situation will not change permanently, it doesn't bulge. Sometimes we push and push, think and think until we are mentally exhausted and physically tired. If we continue to lean on our own understanding, we will be just like that wall in the natural and our circumstances will not bulge but instead continue to stand in our way, blocking the true blessings of God.

YOU can continue to look to the wall and figure out how your circumstances are going to get better and don't give it to God. See how far you really make it on your own. Don't depend on your own thinking and take a short cut when God is trying to have you walk through an open door.

Make it easier on yourself and give it to Daddy God. He is your lover, friend, deliverer, healer, comforter, bank, financial planner and the list goes on. The minute you give it all to God and continue to stand firm on His word no matter how crazy the natural seems, a shift will occur in the spiritual and you will see it in due season in the natural. I am living proof of this!

Don't worry if you lose it all in the natural as Job did, just remember God, yes the great I AM has the ability, authority and power to give it all back to you 100+ fold. If He did it for me, He will do it for you! So what are you waiting for? It's long overdue, it's time to totally surrender and watch how God began to use you.

Men Hurt Too: The Silent Pain

As most know my passion in life is equipping women with the strategies needed to build self worth through self-empowerment.

But as I look more and more at what the word E.G.O. means to me "Empowering God Originals", I cannot exclude the men. This subject has really been tugging at my heart for quite sometime. It's impossible for me to express fully everything in this one blog but I can't keep silent any longer.

Women around the world are combining forces to break the silence once and for all. But what about our men?

No one would disagree that everyone will at some point in their life, experience a deep level of pain. Men are no exception; they have emotions just like women. Maybe they are not as vocal as women but the pain may still be there. Men experience pain from sexual, physical, verbal abuse and trying to live up to women unrealistic expectations just to name a few.

What's the difference between a woman covering up her pain with make-up and a man hiding his pain behind a buff body? What's the difference between a women throwing herself into helping everyone else to hide her pain and a man running into the arms of various women? The answer is none. Both are trying to escape the pain and seeking a temporary "feel good" fix. Only to find pain waiting patiently for the "high" to come down.

It saddens me that most look at men as pitiful emotionless creatures who are self centered. It saddens me that there are not enough safe places for men to openly discuss their pain without being judged or looked at as being less of a man.

Just like women, men need the emotional support, the right level of sensitivity and compassion. We all make mistakes, it just appears to me that some are willing to embrace a woman past mistakes more than a man. When taking on the role as a Spiritual Life Coach, part of my job is to get to the root of issues. I can't stand a patch work job because it's only a temporary fix.

Women become better women when they acknowledge, deal with past issues and have a solid plan to move forward. The same holds true for men. All over the world someone may point out what appears to be a no good man. But I tend to look with a different pair of eyes. Many times I see the anger, addictions, lack of emotions, lack of commitment , etc as being the results of something much more deeper.

Men ask yourself: Are there any unresolved issues from my past that I am trying to cover up? Are those unresolved issues the reason for my current behavior/addictions? If so, how can I deal with those issues and move forward? Most women may not want to admit it, but we need our men.

Don't get me wrong, I do not mean need a man for validation, a sense of completion, etc but to arise. We need men to be what you and I already know they possess. Men have a strength about them that blows my mind! The world is full of wounded men, men needing to be healed on past issues.

Men it's time to face your personal demons. Women in our quest to empower one another let's not forget about the unresolved issues that men face from their past as well. We are here to build one another up not tear each other down.

Much success to you on your empowerment journey!

Self Discipline: The Only Alternative

Let’s face it, anyone who is of sound mind is aware what they should and need to do to achieve the desired results they are seeking. Whether it’s going for a walk twice a week or serving your community once a month. What make a person continually not do what their heart and mind set out to do?

For some it is lack of discipline to ones self. My personal definition of self discipline is managing myself; going forward with my goal whether I “feel” like it or not. Self discipline is a skill one obtains through consistently doing the task over a period of time.

A person just can’t set a goal and follow through with that particular assignment one time and think they have master self discipline. Self discipline is an ongoing process; if a person does not exercise self discipline then their self managing skills will get rusty.

Here are a few tips and exercises you can use to get you pointed in the right direction:

Tip #1 Decide. Change should always start with the decision to choose to change. We all have choices so choose to form good habits and discipline you first and foremost. I am a firm believer about the power of words.

Exercise#1- Write the following statements on an index card or sheet of paper. Throughout the day repeat several times: I choose to maintain self discipline and control whether in my thoughts, my actions or words. I am a discipline individual and the evidence is seen through the action I take daily.

Tip#2 Imagine.

Exercise#2- Take out a clean sheet of paper and at the top write Old Habits. Now imagine your life a year from now if you continue wishing you had self discipline but never took action. How would it make you feel? What old habits are you trying to break? Procrastination in starting your business? Overeating? Patience? (Be sure to write down under this section the old habits you lack discipline in and the emotion associated with those habits)

Exercises#3- On that same sheet of paper write down the new habits you ARE going to achieve (notice I emphasized you are going to achieve your goals this time). Now imagine how you would feel once you achieve your desire goals. Would you feel like an overcomer? Have sense of peace? Be at a healthy weight? A sense of fulfillment? Whatever positive emotions come from that write it down, and hold on to it!

Tip#3 Have an accountability partner. Accountability partners are great because they act as a moderator to the goals a person has set to achieve. Your accountability partner will encourage you; keep you focus and usually weekly or monthly meetings will be held to track your progress. Accountability partners are being used by entrepreneurs, professional athletes and ordinary individuals such as you and me. It is a perfect way to bring both what has been working and maybe not working in achieving your goals.

Four Things Learned From The Jabez Prayer

1 Chronicles 4:10 (New International Version)

10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

There were four things Jabez requested from God in this passage. I personally believe that God hears our every desires and will grant those things that are a part of His plans for us.

What have you been asking God for? Remember when making your request known to God, ask yourself the reason behind the request? On the bigger scale of things, it's not about us but fulfilling the assignment.

I use to pray selfish prayers, it was all about me and that's it. Now I make sure the things I am asking for, is aligned with His plans for my life and how it will benefit His Kingdom.

Four Things To Jabez Prayer:

1. He asked God to bless him. (I go for the spiritual blessings first and the material blessings will follow)

2. Enlarge his territory. (Not just your natural territory but spiritual territory)

3. For God's hand to be with him. (He will strengthen, guide, direct, protect and so much more)

4. To keep him from harm (I believe Jabez was talking about the evil dark powers, principalities, spiritual wickedness, etc)

I pray you are uplifted and inspired!

Kick The Devil To The Curb

Sometimes the unfortunate events we experience in life causes one to think they are unworthy. Long after God forgives and forgets, we tend to still blame ourselves.

That is nothing but the enemy playing with our thoughts. Remember God word says but the thief only comes to steal and to kill, and destroy John 10:10 (NIV). The enemy is so slick, he will literally steal your joy, kill your spirit and when there is nothing left but a tired fleshly body, he goes for the killing and destroy your soul. That is the only thing he cares about is destroying a person soul. He knows his fate already and is trying to take as many people down as possible.

But you my dear are an overcomer, you have the victory! You must remember if God is for you then who can be against you. The second part of John 10:10 (NIV) says "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." It's time to get real with yourself before God. Ask him to show you yourself so you can shed off the old and walk into the new.

It's time to kick the devil and his cohorts to the curb!

Father God,

We come to you in complete boldness and confidence, in the name of Jesus Christ. Asking you to quicken our spirits to hear from you with crisp transmission. We come before you, bowing down to you, worshiping you in spirit and in truth. Your word says if two of us on earth agree about anything we ask for, it will be done for us by our father in heaven, which is you.

We enter you courts with praise and thanksgiving, for you are worthy to be praise! We come to you in gratitude as you hear the prayers of the righteous. Strongmen called spirit of rejection, spirit of fear, spirit of bondage, spirit of familiar spirit, spirit of infirmity, we rebuke you and bind you in the name of Jesus and any roots, branches, trees, tentacles, vines, fruits and any other assignment not mention but in our presence in the name of Jesus.

Any disease or illness that has invaded our body, cells, organs, home, workplace, car, territory I bind you up also according to Matthew 18:18 and loose you at Jesus feet so He may do with it as He sees fit.

Destroy any Satanic and cohort assignments, boobie traps, snares according to John 14:14.

I ask you to loose in our life, the spirit of Truth and life more abundantly! Let joy, peace, abundance, good health, prosperity and any thing else you see fit make there permanent home in us and around us. Be our strongtower! I thank you and give you the highest praise, for we are healed and spirit-filled! I seal this prayer with Jesus precious blood, Amen and Amen!

You Can Do It

Reflecting back on my childhood, I remember sitting in the classroom during storytime listening to my teacher read a book. The words that stuck with me was "I think I can, I think I can". Throughout the years I have repeated those very words to give me the courage needed during challenging moments. Only recently it occurred to me that we shouldn't say we think we can but instead we know we can!

So now I say "I know I can!"

You must know that anything you put your mind to can and will be achieved. You must know that you have control over your life to turn that negative into a positive. I know you can do it!

Action Step: Write down the following statement: "I know I can" 3 times in all CAPS on an index card or sticky notes. Post in places you go most often and say out loud several times a day.

Respect Yourself First and They Will Follow

By nature the typical woman wears several hats throughout the day. Whether mother, daughter, professional, financial planner, spiritual advisor, hostess; most are taught to put other needs before their own.

Taking on more and more task, overwhelmed to the max and not knowing how to say no, these individuals often times are taken for granted. These women feel underappreciated and disrespected.

Could you be one of them? If so read on...

I read an interesting post from a dear friend of mine, expressing how he is tired of women being disrespected by men. Naturally women gave thumbs up and some even commented. Even though I agreed with the statement, it occurred to me that it's long overdue for women to begin respecting themselves and other women.

Most women would not agree but think about it, we often times say we demand respect from men but yet we spend so much time disrespecting ourselves and other women. Pointing out every flaw and snickering at the next, instead of focusing on the beauty, the inner strength.

I was that woman who demanded respect from the world but berated myself on a daily basis. I would say words such as "I am not good enough", "I am fat", "I am ugly", "I hate myself", "I am so not appreciated"...sounds familiar?

But lets say someone would use those very same words, I would be steaming mad. A woman will say behind close doors she is worthless but if someone calls her worthless, they can't handle it. But isn't that person only confirming what she already believes within?

When we do not respect ourselves, we do not place high value upon ourselves. We tend to settled, allow individuals to take us for granted and justify their actions.

The road to respect begins with you, it's a part of building positive character. Are you wondering what does respect mean? In my eyes, it is nothing more than a feeling about myself and others. Those feelings are portrayed towards myself and others through my words and actions.

No one deserves to be disrespected and if allowed it will be a continuing cycle of negativity.

Whose Your Number One Fan?

Empowerment Thought: Am I my number one fan?

When you think of the word fan, what comes to mind? What does it mean to you? Well when I think of the word fan, a sports fan automatically comes to mind.

Attend any sports event and it's easy to spot out the die hard sports fan. Some may have gone the extra mile painting their faces, make homemade banners and know the game/person inside and out.

A fan is devoted to the game, whether rain or shine, in season or out of season; they have a geniune love for it. You never see a fan just sitting on the sidelines but they are cheering on the team or person every step of the way.

Earlier I asked were you your number one fan and hopefully you said yes. Just as a fan studies and do research on their favorite team or player, we should take on that same enthusiastic approach. As women we need to dig deep and get to know ourselves from within. Many women may only scratch the surface by making themselves look good on the outside but behind close doors they may not feel good on the inside as well.

Take time to get to know you. It may feel uncomfortable at the time but it is well worth it, to know who you are. There's no price you can put on knowing your own value, giving yourself encouraging words, being enthusiastic about achieving your personal goals.

I challenge you to take action today to become your number one fan. It's easier to love others when you know who you are and what you are worth.
